avichinnu,

I've one KSG-MC-UKS concert that seems to match what
you're looking for (though I don't have any info about
the venue/date).

In anycase, here's the song-list

KSG-MC-UKS
1. Pranamamyaham - Gaula
2. Durmargachara - Ranjani
3. Dharini Telusukonti - Suddha Saveri
4. Satatam Thavaka - Kharaharapriya
5. RTP - Mohanam
6. Bhajan
7. Raghupati Raghava Rajaram
8. Bhagyada Lakshmi Baramma - Madhyamavati

Here are d/l links for this concert

http://rapidshare.de/files/25055284/KSG ... 2.zip.html
http://rapidshare.de/files/25054784/KSG ... 3.zip.html

Hopefully this is the concert you're looking for.
If not let's treat this as an extra and wait for Kji to
come up with the goods!

KSG did a couple of North America tours in the 90's. Since then I have not heard about his concerts. Anyone know what's happening? I had been to his place in Trivandrum in the 90's but haven't kept in touch with him since then.

I recall with fondness the time spent with him, Dorai-saar & Kanykumari during his first US tour in 1993. Cannot forget his amazing concerts! A Desh he played at Oklahoma still stays in my mind's ear...

We tried to bring him to Chennai last November for Carnatica's Bharat Sangeet Utsav, but he politely declined. Personal reasons which he doesn't wish to elaborate on. It's best that we leave that angle alone!

Pardon my ignorance but is this the very musician who is also an accomplished composer with the pen name, "lalitadAsa?" Compositions like "pAvana guru" (describing the history of the temple), nanda nandana(rAsalIla) etc. are some lilting gems.

Haven't heard much about KSG of late. I know he doesn't perform in Madras, but are there any concerts of his in Bangalore? I believe he is a regular at the Ramanavami season there.

One of the best - if not THE best - flautists in India today.

There is one concert of his with MC. A scintillating Mohana Kalyani RTP. He sings the line a couple of times. Absolutely wonderful. I can upload it if anyone is interested.

Gents,

You can download the Mohana Kalyani RTP from the following link.

http://www.sendspace.com/file/mxjyqo

My documentation mentions the venue as Sheshadripuram, Bangalore. I think the violinist is MC. No idea about the percussionists.

Hope you enjoy it.

Is the violinist not Kanyakumari?

Could be Kartik, I have no idea. I have always been under the impression that it was MC.

And quite possibly so, as Ms. Kanyakumari is Shri MC's disciple :)
I have always had a problem differentiating the two on tape.

To me, Shri KSG has always been a bit of a hermit. I have spent several hours talking to him, both when he visited the US in the 90s and also in Trivandrum. There is a serene ambience around him that's palpable. And it shows in his music too. So much soukhyam.

Ever since he lost his wife a few years ago, he has become even more withdrawn, a friend tells me. My pranams to this great maestro.

ArunK/MaheshS,

Many thanks. Kanada was serene, and Mohanakalyani...truly one of the best ragas that seem suited for the flute! And, to my ers, it is Kanyakumari..the accompaniment is so non-obtrusive....:)

Sigmu7 -

OK OK, here ya go. Mohanam RTP as requested :)

http://www.unbase.com/n/1886034267

KSG-MC-UKS [Nada Brahma sabha , Mysore 1994]

I'm just listening to it. Quality is all I can say!! His thanam is brilliant, it's like listening to thanam on the divine veena itself. And MC starts of the thanam similar to the starting of the Mohana varnam [GG RR ..], needless to say UKS accompaniment for thanam is brilliant as usual.

Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!!

KSG - the all time great flute maestro from kerala. I heard that now he has stopped playing flute (after his wife's demise) and have now settled in Chennai leading a silent life.

KSG will always be in GREAT FORM. It is the moronic attitude of concert organisers (who go after crowd pullers) and the masses who cannot appreciate these musicians and their music, have kept these Geniuses away from main stream.
.

Sorry if this is off topic :!:

i dont wish to nitpick or get into a fight, but, however it is believed that Sri KSG is the one who doesnt want to perform much, is choosy and he boycotts Madras by choice. If he is willing to play, I am sure there will be a handful of organisations ready to feature him with the right kind of respect that he deserves..

Assuming he is choosy / boycotts Madras - there should be some valid reason, isnt it !

i guess there is, but, what is the reason?
did every existing sabhas and rasika in chennai demean him or something?
if one particular individual or organisation did something wrong, why punish the world?
