here are the first four tracks of a concert
(you can peep in at sangeetham as well for two more concerts out there-what are u listening part 31)

: http://rapidshare.de/files/5007994/02-V ... i.mp3.html
http://rapidshare.de/files/5008231/03-G ... i.mp3.html
http://rapidshare.de/files/5013287/04-S ... s.mp3.html

some time back WE HAD DISCUSSED ,HERE, THE NECESSITY TO KEEP THIS FORUM FROM BECOMING A CONCERT EXCHANGE FORUM .INSTEAD IT WAS FELT THAT MORE EMPHASIS WAS TO BE GIVEN TO DISCUSSIONS.

though i will complete the second half of the concert tomorrow, it would be nice if you could enable receiving emails option so that i could correspond directly without going against the spirit here.

ONE BASIC QUESTION THOUGH..
TKR , looked at, from so many angles, is one of the most exciting vocalists to have graced the concert stage.
wonder why he was not so famous??

It may be a small comfort to know

Full many a gem of purest ray serene
The vast unfathomed caves of ocean bear
Full many a flower is born to blush unseen
And waste its sweetness on the desert air.

Coolkaarni,
This is the million dollar question. I can only narrate an incident which will make all rasikas shed tears of blood (raththa kanneer).
MA 1966 season. TKR's night kutcheri. The duration of night concerts used to be from 9 pm to 11.30 pm. He sang brilliantly. Pushpalathika neraval- swaram, Tatwameruga Tharama (garuda dhwani) with swarams in tisra nadai, an excellent Subhapantuvarali and Kalyani. My cousin and I were in the balcony. The small audience that was there at the start was thinning progressively. We wanted to utilise the oppurtunity to sit in the rows reserved for life members ( we normally sat in the Rs.2 row ) and kept moving down the gallery. At 10.30 or therabouts we were sitting in the I row of the balcony when my cousin said in a shocked tone "Look Behind!!" ( Dey, thirumbi pAr). I did and was SHOCKED to see only two other men sitting in the second row at the other end. YES. Only 4 persons were occupying the entire MA balcony. With that audience, to sing so well required vidwat with total detachment.

and kept moving down the gallery
you remind me of my dads methods of watching hollywood classics in bangalore theatres of the lates40s and early 50s(when he was a boy).
Only difference was that he used to move from front(25p ticket) to the rear on the sly

btw was tnk on the violin and pmi on the mridangam.and by any chance was thegarudadhwani song -anandasagara ?
we have this concert with us fortunately.

Kaapi sir,

What a story! I guess here's a true artist performing for the arts' sake
if ever there was one. Thanks to your narration of this incident my respect
for TKR has gone up many times.

Thanks for sharing this with the rest of us.

I have heard a similar story for an MDR concert at Chennai (just an audience of four). His peformance I heard was superb. The accompnist (I am not too sure) was TNK who wanted to windup soon but MDR went on over three hours drenching them on a 'gaana mazhai'. If by any magic coolkarni has that recording then it is worth its weight in platinum!

But why? Just because only 4 people heard it originally?

T.K.Rangachari accompanied by C.Lakshminarayana and Palakkad Raghu was on the AIR main concert at 8.45AM two days back. Next day was Lalgudi Jayaraman. AIR is doling out fine stuff these days

Though you lost your face you still keep watching us

Havn't you heard the saying:

"heard melodies are sweet; but those unheard are sweeter"

The AIR radio broadcast of TKR(electromagnetic wave) will be heard by those at alpha centauris in about four years. But that concert of MDR(sound wave) is lost for ever!

Yes Ramya, and the Garrudadhawani is worth is weight in gold. MSG is simply brilliant, especially when he responds to TKR's Vagadheeswari. The neraval for Vadera is also excellent.

Is this the AIR concert that you're looking for?!

TKR - V Sethuramiah - Palghat Raghu (AIR concert)

1. Sarasijanabha - Nagagandhari - Rupakam - Muthuswamy Dikshitar
2. Paridhana Michite - Bilahari - Jhampai - Patnam Subramania Iyer
3. Kamalambam Bhajare - Kalyani - Adi - Muthuswamy Dikshitar
4. Ashtapadi (Pralaya Payodhi Jale) - Ragamalika - Adi - Jayadeva

If so, here are the download links [rapidshare links deleted]

Now that Kji is working on TKR's 1966 academy concert, you've hopefully found
(or will shortly find) both the items on your wish-list. :)

You can upload a track in the following combinations whenever you feel like wanting to read a post from one of these members
incon , Meena - TKR
venkatpv -TRS
Meena -MDR
Mahesh (the UK one) - TNS
narahari -any bangalorean or Mysorean artist
ninja - kannada bangala

Someone had mentioned on this forum how there were only 4 people in the audience for a TKR concert years ago. I had a similar experience with a concert by Vairamangalam (TKR's disciple) in Trivandrum 4-5 years ago. A big auditorium, and just 5-6 people. But he sang with full verve!

I would be very interested in Vairamangalam tapes.
