Happy Ganesha Chaturthi. A very rare krithi on Ratnagarbhaganapathim worshipped by Sri Adi Shankaracharya and the unbroken chain of Jagadgurus at Sringeri. Rendered by Sri Balamurali Krishna.

Thanks Meena for posting the link. Nice collection.
I am presenting Sri Tyagaraja"s girirAjasuta -bangALa on violin.

This kriti was taught to me in vocal class with a ciTTaswaram which I am reproducing here. I do not know the origin of this ciTTaswaram and haven't heard any artist render it. Must have been from my teacher's guru.
I posted the ciTTaswaram in SS board long ago..
Happy Vinayaka Chathurti to all.

DrShrikant,
I am not sure who is the composer. This was a cd that was made personally to raise funds for building the Sringeri bridge connecting Sringeri with Narasimhavana, where the pontiff resides more than 20 years ago. Sri Balamurali Krishna was so very kind to sing the compositions on Sringeri, and also gave a concert (as did Anup Jalota) to raise funds for the same. The krithi remains one of my favorites many years past. I am unaware of many compositions by the Jagadgurus, and definitely it would be a topic worth discussing at some point. Hope you enjoyed it.

Ok, since u ask me on Ganesha chaturthi thread, and I shouldn't say no to such an auspicious opportunity, I will make an attempt digging up some compositions. I will start the thread, and hopefully, it will carry on from there.

A Funny Story with a message
VinAyaka went to the Ganges for his morning ablutions. The place was crowded with his devotees. As he entered the waters all of them got excited and started splashing the water around him. VinAyaka enjoyed it and smilingly remarked
mAmOdakEna tADaya
(mA mA udakEna tADaya = Don't splash me with water(udakam))
The devotees understood as
(mA modakEna tADaya = to me (mA which is same as mAm) beat up with sweetmeat (mOdakam = kozhukkaTTai)
So the devotees went home and made lot of modakams and inundated him with that. Thus started the practice of celebrating vinAyaka caturthi with lots of modakams which we all enjoy.
But then PANinI the grammarian came along and said that the interpretation was totally wrong since the shorter form of mA for mAm should not be used at the beginning of a sentence (Pan 7.1.18) so only the first explanation stands:)
As the controversy raged PANini was eaten by a tiger as he wandered in the forest (puniished by vinAyakA for his indiscretion, so the story goes), and we continue to enjoy the mOdakams.
Happy VinAyaka caturthI
