( mod note: Rajesh, you have done the needful by linking to the parent thread. The posts here are specifically about the Centenary celebrations, If we merge it, it may lose the focus. Please post a link from the parent thread to this thread as well )
You have a point ,this is about centenary thread. BTW all terrific antha kAlathu pOsters like ramasubramanian and GBR if you have something exclusively to talk about GN Sir's music(see I am also talking like TRS, TR etc by referring GNB as GN Sir), please discuss it in the parent GNB thread , http://rasikas.org/forums/viewtopic.php? ... m-gnb.html. Keep this thread only with announcement about GNB's centenary celebrations .

Once when this thread gets exhausted , I will post a link from that thread to this thread , that is perhaps 2010 target ;) . There are two vageyyakaras one is GNB and the other is GNB Centenary celebrations, is that not funny VK :) .

dear Rajasekarji

I still remember laksmhi requesting me to contact you for the " Siva Siva..." piece sung your legendary father. ( his collection is huge and heavy!!!)

I was there at the concert. It rained without devamrithavarshini!

It was my arengettram too at Chennai, but as a listener. Wonderful concert!

Where were you seated?

Very impressive. You are very articulate and I am sure you must have done a wonderful job in preparing the book. Now you are an actor too! Thank you very much to people like you, V.Sriram and others for your efforts.

The out come of these events are
1) A First day cover was introduced by the Post Office
2) A book/Souvenir was published by GB Bhuvaneswaran and his son GB Mahesh. The book is of excellent quality printing and paper and has un published articles written by Shri GNB and his father Shri GV Naryanayaswami Iyer. The editors are none other than our own member gamakam and Shri V Ramnaryan of Sruti magazine

The book can be purchased at
Carnatic Book House Royapettah
Swati Centre Alwarpet and
Sruti Foundation Cathedral Road

Swati has also released a 2 dvd documentary on Shri GNB which also has great value and the two dvds together are over 3 hours. This will be available in kalakendra.com very soon

It is a postal cover and it is similar to the one released on MSS in 2005. I will try and post the scanned copy of the postal cover & book cover shortly.

I couldn't help but clarifying that 'Gandharva Ganam' is NOT a Souvenir but a book that tries to throw light on various aspects of GNB's MUSIC.

About "Gandharva Ganam"

Gandharva Ganam, a commemorative volume compiled and edited by Lalitha Ram and V Ramnarayan and published by the GNB family on the occasion of GNB’s birth centenary, is truly a labour of love. Musicians, scholars, admirers and followers of GNB, old and young, celebrating the centenary across the world, will agree that any such effort to perpetuate his memory can hardly be otherwise. This volume is an endeavour to amalgamate the sum of the warm, generous tributesâ€â€Â

Excellent gamakam and sindhuja(not heard the download yet). As a composer GNB stands very unique and is very multifaceted. Just curious in general has GNB composed krithis with specific kshetrams in mind, if yes you can always make a mention of those in your write up.I hope you are going to come up with both english and thamizh write up of every krithi.

Rajesh,

Thank you.

Some of GNB's composition are on Kshetram (like the Mamakuleswaram on Sastha at Anandathandavapuram) while many are not. I shall definitely include this info in the write up appropriately.

And yes:-) the write ups will be both in English and Tamil.

Just forgot to add that in my previous post , you can put your post #68 and all your successive posts in the GNB thread and not in this thread which is mainly related only to GNB centenary celebrations . Let it stay cohesively there in that right thread.

Although not part of the official centenary celebrations, I am presenting a concert in commemoration of the GNB centenary year in Sydney on 24th April. Details are available at http://www.sydneymusiccircle.info/
Any Sydney rasikas are welcome to attend. The concert will feature a few of the maestro's favourite compositions and some of his own too.

I do get the centenary connection , but still it is best to put in that thread as it is more about GNB as a vaggeyakkara. Choice is yours and I prefer for all of us to refer in the future in one thread than this thread.

Back in the fifties, GNB lived on the 4th Main Road, Gandhinagar, Adyar. His son G.B. Thyagarajan was my class-mate. He is afflicted with polio. We used to play "Nondi Pidichal". He used to excel in that since he is naturally one good-legged and had superior skills. What I remember about him is he was a very kind affectionate kid. I was sad when at the beginning of one school-year he did not show up. I heard his father had moved to some place else. Wonder where he is and how he is doing.
