I had a request for information (on the carnaticcorner.com guestbook) about the composer known as Brazil Subramaniam. Nithyashri, Sashikiran and others have sung his compositions on cassettes.

Here is the text of the enquiry:

"We are curious to know is about the composer Brazil Dr. Subramaniam whose compositions have been sung by Sowmya and Nityasree Mahadevan. We did live in São Paulo Brazil for many years before moving to Canada two decades ago.. All our attempts to find out about this composer have failed. We did know one D. Natarajan Subramanian, who was a Professor of Chemistry. Is it possible for you to throw some light on this composer."

mohan,
I kept this after posting it on the BBoard. I think it's directly quoted from Sowmya herself.

"Dr. Brazil Subramaniam is a Chemistry Professor who has composed the lyrics for a few hundred songs. While he has indicated the Ragas for the songs, some of them have been set to tune by Shashikiran and some by me. Most of his compositions are in Tamil, while some are in Sanskrit. I volunteered to sing the first album. He still lives in Brazil and visits India regularly."

Mohan,
Is he a true vAggEyakar, or is he a composer?

I have heard one of the albums of Sowmya's renditions of Dr Brazil Subramaniam's compositions and there are cast in solid classical background and Sowmya has aptly embellished the pieces with her vidwat. Worth a listen and hope to hear more from this composer.
