Re: Jayanthi celebrated with reference to thithi / Nakshatr
As all of us are aware ,for humans the birthday is celebrated on their birth star in the particular month. For eg., Kartika Masa & Ashlesha Nakshatra is some one's birthday. Where as for God's, it looks as though the "thithi" is more important than the star. Normally "Pithru Karya" is performed based on "thithi". Saraswathi puja is celebrated on the day in which Moola nakshatra appears during Navarathri!

thithi is moon-based.
It is always specified as 'shukla paksha' (after amAvAsya) or 'krishna paksha' (after paurnamI). Vinayaka chathurtI is celebrated on the shukla-paksha-chathurtI day. If a thithi of the same paksha appears twice in a month, the first thithi is selected.
nakshatram is sun-based.
In this case also, when the same nakshatram apears twice in a month, the first one is selected.

all SrIvaiSNava festivals are celebrated mostly coinciding with the nakSatras. For example,
SrI rAma avatAra dinam - chittirai punaravasu
SrI jayanthi - AvaNi rOhiNi
SrImad rAmAnuja jayanthi - chittirai tiruvAdirai

The birthday of Sri Rama on the ninth day of the first month of lunar calendar. (Telugu calendar is lunar calendar.) It seems Smarthas celebrate it on the day when navami thithi starts, whereas Sri Vaishnavas celebrate it on the day when navami thithi ends.
Same is the case with Gokula Ashthami or Sri Jayanthi. Smarthas celebrate it on the day ashthami thithi starts, and Sri Vaishnavas celebrate when ashthami thithi ends.
The Thiru Nakshatrams are incidental.

P-B, I assure you that we (Srivaishnavas) celebrate the jayanthi's based on the Nakshatrams only.

Srivaishnavas (or any other vaishnavas) are not ipso-facto non-smartha. Nor are smarthas ipso-facto non-vaishnava. Iyengars are a sub-set of smarthas.
