that was a fine rendering.
Though I must admit that I am not a big fan of this version of vani jayram- too coquettish in my opinion.
Mehdi hasan gives a fine backdrop to the mood of this raga in one his famous labels
http://www.rogepost.com/dn/6hz9
Here is the classical original by gangubai hangal and krishna hangal
http://www.rogepost.com/dn/1ey8
anyone who can get hold of a rendering of Arjun Sa Nakod or even his son Balakrishna Nakod will be in for a surprise.
I surpised B Nakod one evening at hamsadhwani with this request and he was almost in tears , knowing that a rendering of his , long long ago in harihar , had taken such firm roots.
Runa laila's version - which appears on the radio in the famous swimming pool scene with Madhavi and kamal in marocharitra- is closest to my heart.
So much of pathos in it.
And the same can be said of Yaava mohana Murali by ratnamala prakash (?)
If you are in a creative mood , try this sadder version which veers towards darbari instead of taking flight , like in vani jayrams rendering !
BTW you did not reveal which of those medicines for sore throat worked for you

This is from the kannaDa movie bhAgya jyOti ( probably of 1975-1977)
Starts as "pankaja nEtri madhumaya gAtrI" ; It is a very nice song indeed, based on rAga valaji.
Musicindiaonline does not have this song .. I will check few other portals and post if I find a link..

Mr. Humdinger!
What does the name mean?
Any way, Thanks for the reaction.
A few years back I started work on a TV programme, based on Film songs and classical music.
This programme never took off. Though I did several others.
There are so many channels and radio stations.
No one is interested in classical music and particularly bringing it to the reach of youngsters.
I will dig up my collections and try to start a discussion.
Thanks for the addition.
Immediately I thought of another Balamurali song in sAma.
Mouname nE bhAsha O mUga mansa.
I am bad at this kind of typing.
any more sAmas?

vijayagopal,
oh, dont bother about the meaning, i just liked the way it sounds
here is the meaning if u r interested
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/humdinger
and please share your knowledge here so that we can have a good discussion. we shall provide links also like MNS where ever possible.
MNS: thanks for the links, i am told that list has some mistakes though...
talking of BMK songs: here is a song in dvijaavanti, from AIR collection of surasa.net
http://surasa.net/music/lalita-gitalu/a ... amaina.mp3
it has almost similar tune to that of "himagiri sogasulu..." song from pandava vanavaasam.

Dear friends!
Discussing film songs is some times very interesting.
Many people would not know that a very succesful song is based on a classical ragam.
The success of the song many times depends on it's basic classical structure.
Although I am interested in classical music and listen to it for hours together, many times I fail to recognise a ragam in a film song.
This is what makes me interested in them.
Otherwise I am not much of a fil buff.
The wonderful songs that almost tickles your imagination from the film Aditya 369 " Janavule" is in Mohanaragam.
There are many other songs in this wonderful ragam.
Ghanaghana Bhakta Tukaram
Hamsa Bhale Ramchiluka Agent Gopi
are some more things that come to my mind. I am sure these songs will be available on the net.
There is an old Kanta Rao movie By name Navagraha Pooja Mahima.
The song from that movie " Evvaro endukee reethi" is an excellent mohanam.
May be friends will put a few more songs together so that we can enjoy them..
Is Nanu palimpa from budhimantudu in Mohanam?
Or, is there a slight variation somewhere?
I am asking this question very sincerely.
Thanks.
