Needed: Viruttam

Post by hydkarthik »

Hello all,

Can anyone let me know how many of the Nalayira Divya Prabandhams are composed in praise of Lord Venkateswara at Tirupati? What are they?

Regards
Karthik

Thanks for the info
The site gives the list of hymns composed by the saints at different kshethrams. How can I get the hymns.? (I mean the sahithyam.)

There are so many viruttams in the files that you mentioned. I am actually looking for just one which would be apt choice before singing the krithi Balagopala Palayasumam (Bhairavi-Muthuswamy Deekshithar)

Periyazhwar has written the most number of pasurams on young Krishna and his antics. Since the kriti starts with 'Balagopala', one of these verses on young Krishna might be suitable:

maittaDankanni yaSOdai vaLarkkinRa
Seittalai nIla niRattuc ciru piLLai
neyttalai nEmiyum Sangum nilaviya
kaittalangaL vandu kANIrE
kananguzhaiyIr vandu kANIrE

mattak kaLiRRu vasudEvar tammuDai
cittam piriyAda dEvaki tan vayiRRil
attattin pattAm nAL tOnRiya accutan
muttam irundavA kANIrE
mugizhnagaiyIr vandu kANIrE

SItakkaDaluL amudanna dEvaki
kOdaikkuzhalAL aSodaikkup pOttanda
pEdaikkuzhavi piDittuc cuvaittuNNum
pAdakkamalangaL kANIrE
pavaLa vAyIr vandu kANIrE

Another alternative is these two verses from amalanaadipiraan - these have been rendered as viruttam often and you should be able to get a recording, though I am not sure if you will find a version set to bhairavi: the first verse refers to balakrishna floating on a banyan leaf and the second one refers to Gopala (Kovalan).

Ala mA marattin ilai mEl oru bAlakanAy
jnAlam Ezhum uNDAn arangattu aravin aNaiyAn
kOlamA maNi Aramum muttuttAmamum muDivilladOr ezhil
nIla mEni aiyO niRai koNDaden nenjinaiyE

koNDal vaNNanai kOvalanAy veNNai
uNDa vAyan en uLLam kavarndAnai
aNDar kOn aNi arangan en amudinai
kaNDa kaNgaL maRRonRinaik kANAvE

TRS has sung this brilliantly

krishno rakshatu no jagat-traya-guruh krishnam namadhvam sada
krishnenakhila-satravo vinihatah krishnaya tasmai namah
krishnad eva samutthitam jagad idam krishnasya daso 'smy aham
krishne tishthati visvam etad akhilam he krishna rakshasva mam

may dovetail well into the krithi

Varsha, it's beautiful, but I think the OP clarified that he wanted a true viruttam, i.e., one in tamizh.

Yes, the classic example that comes to mind is Smt. MSS singing the SlOkam karacaraNakRtam in sanskRt in a viruttam format, followed by SambhO mahAdEva in tamizh....

Two more examples of MSS come to mind.
Petra Thai by Ramalinga Swamigal in Tamizh followed by Siva Siva Siva Bho of Mysore Maharaja in Samskrit and Thaazh Sadaiyum - Pasuram in Tamizh followed by Enta matramuna evvaru talachina of Annamacharya in Telugu .

ThirumangaiyAzvAr's hymns on 'ThiruvallikkENi' Narasimha are famous:
http://narasimmah.blogspot.ca/2010/12/blog-post_30.html (in tamil)

In particular, the hymn 1075. starting with 'paLLiyil ' ..is very good. Story of Prahlada.
