Hi All,
I know this is a very basic question. I keep hearing this term Pancha Jathi 'Tha Dhi Ki Na Thom' in various contexts and just wondered if someone can clarify this for me. As i understand the 5 Jathis (types) of 'Tha Dhi Ki Na Thom' when used in phrases are
Tha Dhi Ki Na Thom - 5 maatras
Tha Dhi , Ki Na Thom - 6 maatras
Tha , Dhi , Ki Na Thom - 7 maatras
Tha Dhi , Ki , Na , Thom - 8 maatras
Tha , Dhi , Ki , Na , Thom - 9 maatras
Can someone confirm to me if my thinking is right? and if so can someone please give examples of these T D K N Tm phrases used in Adi Talam and Roopaka Talam if possible.
Thanks
Pancha Jaathi Tha Dhi Ki Na Thom

Your basic patterns are correct, and you can easily make up examples by multiplying by 3, then filling the beginning of the cycle. The first lesson goes...
|| Tha Ka Dhi Mi *3
, Tha Dhi Gi Na Thom Tha Dhi Gi Na Thom Tha Dhi Gi Na Thom ||
Try doing Adi Talam, Tisra Nadai, using the fill-in phrase
|| Thom , , Tha Ki Tha
For some you will need an additional
Thom , ,
...It is a basic mridangam lesson, but still regularly heard in thanis.
|| Tha Ka Dhi Mi *3
, Tha Dhi Gi Na Thom Tha Dhi Gi Na Thom Tha Dhi Gi Na Thom ||
Try doing Adi Talam, Tisra Nadai, using the fill-in phrase
|| Thom , , Tha Ki Tha
For some you will need an additional
Thom , ,
...It is a basic mridangam lesson, but still regularly heard in thanis.
