the sloka -verses from 'mukundamala' , were composed by a prince of the Chera dynasty called Kulashekara Azhwar (Called Kulashekara Perumal in Kerala.) He was also called Mudaliyandan Nambi . He was one of the 12 sages of the Bhakthi cult of Vaishnavism - Azhwars.

Hey, jewel taking care of all the three worlds,
Hey, jewel attracting the eyes of Gopis like the Chataka bird,
Hey, jewel which is the signal of beauty,
The only jewel on the breasts of Rukhmani,
Who herself is a jewel among your consorts,
Hey crown jewel of all gods,
Hey, Gopala who is the supreme jewel,
Please show us the way.)

And so without stop bow before Lord Krishna,
Krishna has killed all our enemies in this universe,
Salutations to Krishna,
All the world has come from Krishna,
I am the humble slave of Krishna,
All the world is within Krishna,
Oh Krishna, protect me forever.)

VERSE 16

here is a sample video clip ..
Kulkarniji, i know this is being very very greedy, but could you please upload the entire video.. and also any full length concerts (audio is fine :D) of Shri TRS. Like most people here, I am a huge fan of his music.. he is one of those rare blends of being hugely scholarly and also an immaculate performer..

if this is not possible [or will take too much time] because of the prohibitive size of video files, that is fine..

coolkarni

Post by coolkarni »

full video ..
I am a poor man with very little resources.Wish I could have uploaded the full video.anyone in chennai willing to do it , please let me know.I will mail the cd.
Full length Concerts .
I am restraining myself from doing that ..I have seen the benefits of discussing as we go along with shorter tracks ,rather than dump stuff here.
But one thing you can be sure of..
Before this thread runs out of steam , I will have covered all his krithis and ragas.I took the whole of 25 years to reach a stage where I could learn to appreciate TRS.I will not quit until I give everything back here !!!

avichinnu, coolkarni and others, can you type out the pallavi lines (or the first few words in each) for these RTPs?

coolkarni

Post by coolkarni »

vocalist
you have asked me this once before and i have been silent.
simply because your(then) stated need to avoid downloading something you already had , was too distatsteful to me .
Especially in the context of the effort I take to upload a track that is meaningful to the proceedings here.

hereafter ,please try asking somebody else who listens,
to write out those lines for you.

I'm sorry that you were offended by that. We all appreciate your efforts in all your uploads. However, what should be an fast & easy task of downloading and listening to it all, isn't in my case. With a harddrive as limited and an internet connection that is as slow as mine, I have no other way of saving time and harddisk space on my computer (so I have to be selective in what I download and of course, what I request). Please forgive my ignorance.

those rtps were put up in a torrid sequence when rtps were a burning topic.

i guess there should be a different way to approach the appreciation of this artist , this time around.of course bringing these rtps back ,too
It is nice to see you getting fascinated in so quick time.
It took me 20 years.
Inspite of the fact that I lived next door to his sister for a decade and had the fortune of him spending some time in my home and looking at my music collection- I was not at home then and he left a good word of encouragement for me.
Every young artist / enthusiast knows how generous he is in such matters.
Even at this age , it is amazing that he braves the city traffic to arrange concerts for his Music Education Trust at Luz Corner in Chennai.
Always in his Sartorial best , he is a fine example of a teacher who can sing beautifully (or a vocalist who can teach beautifully)

When one of my friends (Delhi Muthukumar - currently a performing artist who also trains under TNS now) gave me all his tapes for conversion to mp3 , I was not sure what the experience would be like.

After all I had heard his lectures which showed little patience with the Hindusthani musicians lack of laya skills -sometimes bordering on sarcasm .But than that is the beauty of fellows like me ! I can change my allegiances quickly and without raising anyones attention !!
:D
But it was something that grew on me .Slowly but surely.
His renderings have always helped me put everything else in proper perspective. With Alapanas even for the shortest of krithi renderings , that experience opened up a new world for me.
That desire to draw the listener in , is unmistakeable .
Please do keep chipping in with your views as you listen to these , as others too will hopefully do.
This buffet will have quite a huge spread !!

I resume with

I was wanting to comment on TRS bEgadA, as it was really good. But I will chip in when the topic is "re-raised" here.

Sangeethapriya hasn't had individual RTP contributions for a while. Perhaps a good time?

TRS has once sung a Kalyani raagam, "Endhuku Nee manasu". In that charanam, he sang "Raga rahitha shree Raama - paraku seyuta nyayama". He sang a brilliant variation in neraval. He would sing Raga rahitha shree Raama in chathusra nadai, and Paraku seyuta nyayama in thisra nadai. It was fantastic experience.

The kAnaDA AlApanA in the RTP posted by Sri Kulkarni is outstanding. Seems like Sri TRS has a soft spot for this rAgA :-) Some of the stuff he sings in the upper octave is unique and brilliantly creative. Who is the violinist? The responses [especially the initial part where Sri TRS is very appreciative] are very very good.

T.R.Subramaniam never dissapoints the listeners,it seems. His Kambodhi prooves that. His music reveals that he is a good teacher and performer.
It has become a habit for me to wait for Kulkarnijis postings[as his postings always contain music links]!
