Could someone please tell me what is special Nadaswaram, and special Tavil? I have been hearing this expression for some years now. I am curious if it is about the instrument, the musician, or the special fare being presented on a given day.

I asked the same question and harimau answered atleast for special thavil. I am assuming the same logic can be applied for special nagaswaram. Check the below url

MY PERSONAL OBSERVATIONS ON PARIVADINI:
I just wish to state that Parivadini in its short public existence has already fulfilled the PROMISE OF THE PROFOUND TRUTH in the statement of Swami Vivekananda who pointed out that ANY Country or Culture that does not honor, respect & revere its PAST has NO FUTURE.
In the last FEW months they have in a CONCRTE FASHION shown why TNK, LGJ & MSG ARE THE TRUE TRINITY OF VIOLIN IN OUR LIFETIMES AT LEAST. The latest telecast of MSG ANNIVERSARY by Parivadini of Dr. Narmadha's EXCELLENT EXPLANATION & TRIBUTE to the PARUR TRADITION exemplified by M.S.G. was accompanied by the SCHOLARLY lesson by N.V.Subramanian(whose Saraswathi was the precursor to the role Parivadini is occupying today already) on WHY M.S.G. IS M.S.G the Genius & Trailblazer & followed by what I can ONLY DESCRIBE as the OUTPOURING of Brilliance& Genius of the whole scope of the Parur SCHOOL.
In short these latest acheivements of Parivadini & Narmadha have ELEVATED THE SPIRITS& HOPES of persons like me who are in DESPAIR observing the current APPARENT tendencies of paradying knowledge& talents using shallow marketing skills to promote themselves as experts etc in ANY AREA they choose to while FAILING IN A FUNDAMENTAL WAY to represent even the fundamental technicalities in the fields they claim to be experts in......

Many thanks for your kind words.SVT(nvs)was indeed a visionary,way back to recognise the need for year around music outside the season by real stalwarts.Realising that not only the names you mentioned were genius' in their own right but also exceedingly magnanimous in sharing their art form with rasikas.(spl thanks Narmadaji for this splendid Remembrance Day)
We are a mere technology tool and at times do feel quite embarrassed for many such show stealing credits!

Hi Nick,
We use opensource broadcasting software and a suite of other applications along with it.
Devices

1. For Streaming a i7 with minimum 2 gig ram and graphic card support (We also have a server for some kind of a control room set up)
2. minimum 256 kbps line - the better the bandwidth the minimal is your data loss. (We currently average about 96% i.e we have sometimes data loss upto 4% on 256 kbps lines)

For Encoding( one of the following depending on what the engineer is trained on and comfortable with)

1. Adobe Media Encoder (requires xml to integrate onto youtube)
2. Wirecast
3. VLC Player
4. Windows media streamer

We use an iball HD camera for the recording(the s/w is given by iBall),for audio we are not taking the audio-in lead into the computer to replicate the live sound ambience.
For our radio broadcast we use an Apple iPad (with or without an external mic).

None of what we do is a trade secret and we openly encourage and support folks to use our know-how & code(esp when on adobe/xml)

All the recorded videos are then classified into xml and put into a db for our analytics(http://www.musicxml.com/. This code is also open however it is still work in progress.

For the use of our audio conversion for our online album releases we use Garageband.

You took an audio feed for this? I think that you need to take a bit more care with the levels --- and try to get a better ADC/interface as soon as you can!

It is nice to be able to see this concert, which I was hoping to attend, but the sound is really poor. Like worse than a cassette recorder 15 years ago. Actually the mridangam is good, the violin OK, but the voice is distorting. Levels? Clipping? Something is certainly wrong.

Sadly, they were not there for Sumithra's concert. I guess they can't be everywhere!
