HI Paddu,

Yep, Hamir Kalyani is a hindustani raga which has been used by many composers in Carnatic music as well.

As far as i know hamir kalyani of carnatic music is same as Kedar of hindustani music....and yes, Mysore Iyengar's venakata saila vihaara is a great work in this raga.

Fateh Ali Khan's Kedar is brilliant. The album is commercial , however I recall Coolji uploading a bit of it for a demo purpose.

I remember TVS in Ayodhya Mandapam [?] singing a sublime RTP in Hamir Kalyani. MSG and UKS were accompanying. Enough said. The thanam by MSG still rings in me ears.

SSI's academy concert of 1967 has a very carnatic HK and Manamuledha to follow :) One mama said to me "Nanna ombodhu gajam madisar katti vittar hindustani ragathukku" :)

Oh, here's [a young?] TKR singing Venkatasaila Vihara.

Isn't that track by Maharajapuram a commercial track from the album Diikshitar Krithis?

jayaram,

I thought I had made it clear to all a few weeks ago that this is not a ugAbhOga :P - May be time to modify the description on the mp3 file!

For the record, this is a shaTpadi verse from kanaka dAsa's haribhaktisAra.

Ramakriya,
What is a shaTpadI? A verse with 6 meters (padas)?
Like an aSTapadi is a verse with 8 padas (meters), right?

A metre/verse with 6 feet(not meters) is ShaTpadi. Likewise aShTapadi has 8 feet.

According to the Hindu review of a TMK concert

"(TM) Krishna wound up with a soothing Hamir Kalyani Bhajan ``Sharade Karunanidhe" written by Chandrasekara Bharathi Mahaswami and tuned by R K Sriramkumar."

Paddu,
I really appreciate your generosity, but I have moved your post with the clip by TMK. It is not the godmods as humdinger says, but the artist himself who has asked that his tracks not be uploaded without his permission. If you have his permission, I will move the link back here.
Please email me (just click on my user name) with the information. Thanks. :)

A Commercial recording of Sri BMK (AIR Archive) features a lovely rendition in Hameer Kalyani - Raadha Naameeda daya leda. Whose composition is it?

Lakshmanji, Thanks.
I searched the web on Namakkal Narasimha Iyengar and found that he was the guru of Ariyakudi and a contemporary of Poochi Srinivasa Iyengar. Could you please list his other compositions?
Thanks.

There is a good vina rendition of Manamuledu, with a short and sweet alapana, by Smt. Padma Varadan here:
http://www.vipanci.com/music/music_download.php

The SAWF website has a page with lots of excerpts of Raga Kedar, of which Hamirkalyani is the Carnatic equivalent:
http://www.sawf.org/Newedit/edit05152000/musicarts.ASP

Be sure to listen to the 'Nom-tom' by Faiyyaz Khan: http://www.sawf.org/audio/kedar/faiyyaz_nomtom.ram
If only tanam in Carnatic RTPs was more often sung like this.

If you scroll down the page, there are tracks of KVN and Y. Sitaraman.

Here's a hamIr kalyANI for Kulkarni-ji: a veena rendition of purahara nandana (Muttuswami Dikshitar) by Smt. Kalpakam Swaminathan from an AIR radio concert, date unknown, accompanists unknown. It's rendered slower than the more popular DKJ rendition. Also note the (yamunA) kalyANI-ish phrases in the samaShTi charaNam.
