Emani Sankar Sastry

Post by varsha »

Tried to locate a thread on this genius and could not find one.
If indeed there is none ( I might have searched incorrectly) it is a tragedy .

Having heard his many versions of Ganamurthe in the past , I was stumped by his essay in one of the two links I give here .
And I have been hearing it almost everyday . He goes on to talk as well on various aspects , showcase the speciality of the composition - Raghuvamsasudha ,and treat us to a mind boggling Sindhu Bhairavi in the company of MSG-UKS-THV in the second track .
And a host of other dazzling bits .

I was forced to rename these tracks in my books .
Hope you all find it a great weekend treat .
What a genius!!!!

Awesome Varsha. These days 'curated playlists' are the new thing. Ha..new! You have been curating songs for us for the past decade. Salutations, internet DJ.

Awesome tracks!! Thank you...

I may have already shared this, but I am afraid to say that I first heard of this great vidvAn from his (even more) famous disciple (Sri Chittibabu) when my room-mate and I interviewed him in Pondicherry beofre a SPICMACAY program....
And as coincidences like this happen all the time, a couple of weeks later, when I was home, I heard that he was performing at the CLT in IITM (IIRC) -so, off I went to hear him, and came back captivated, a fan for life.

Incidentally , Bangalore FM broadcasted a brilliant concert in the evening 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm slot. I could hear the varAli and an awesome nAma kusuma in Sri before the tail pieces.

Varsha, Just hearing Emani gems. Absolutely brilliant and mesmerising. Thanks a lot.

Braindrain, Emanigaru has done many concerts with the ghana raga panchaka kritis. My first expsoure to Emanigaru was thro his twin LPS- Mahaganapathim, Thyagrajapalayasumam, Narasimha mamava, Mamava Meenakshi and Namakusumamula and some tailenders. I was simply floored by that Mamava Meenakshi, his unique cross finger style of playing, sruti bhedams and swaras by himself and his daughter simply blows you off.
