The title line
the maestro has been trying to explore the link between yoga and ragas.
reminds me of rAga yOga bhOga phalamOsangE.... rAga sudha rasa.....

I guess everybody here would have heard his fantastic Om namO bhagavathe vAsudEvAya album.

I really love Pt. Jasraj's voice. Yes, i have heard the Om namo bhagavate vasudevaya album.
His voice i really full of bhakti... and when he sings, he is so light and comfartable and His voice comes from the depth of His heart...
I have the song - "kishorI tere charanan kI raj pAun" , Oh its so wonderful and so is the song - "rAnI tero chirjIyo gopAl"
I wonder if i can get the lyrics of some of the songs rendered by Him on this forum...

Will never forget a concert at the Music Academy a few years ago where Pandit-ji was given a fulsome intro by a high-up of the Academy (won't name who it was), but his tabla accompanist was ignored. Pandit-ji then gestured away wildly, tilted up his mike, apologised for not knowing English or Tamizh and said in Hindi that his accompanist was a vidwan in his own right and needed to be introduced equally if not more.

He then proceeded to provide an introduction to Pandit Vijay Ghate that was well understood by all present.

The one item they presented together was quite unforgettable. Actually the whole evening was unforgettable, as they were followed by L.Subramanian and Amjad Ali Khan in a jugalbandhi.

Sense World Music CD SWM011 has a longer version of Oam Namo Bhagwate Vasu Devaya (26.23 minutes) by Jasraj. The CD includes Raga Maru Bihag (50 minutes)

10yearslate I was there too - I thought the point could have been made in a more dignified matter...he went something like "no, no, this is not right...hey you, come here..." the person concerned was, of course, the late TT Vasu. Agreed, he could be a little sloppy at times and he did miss out Vijay Ghate's name but, more than anything, it was about Jasraj's hubris.

The pieces in the concert were the same as the CD referred to by Kanti Dattani. Maru Behag began quite well but Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya was an abject capitulation to the gallery

bihAris and bengAlis (may be even Maharashtrians) make pa akshara as ba akshara. bihar is actually vihAr. bengAl is vengAl. Also in tamizh we say vangALavarigUDA for Bay of Bengal. So nothing special about the paNDit being a "baNDit". In reality paNDit jasrAj steals our hearts with his divine music.

The reference of Jasraj ji as Bandit as opposed to Pandit is intentional.

I beleive Gangubai ji once playfully asked him to describe the lakshanas of Mewati Gharana 's raga exposition. There is also a valid criticism that his singing is full of melodrama as opposed to Drama:)

Many musicologists do not admit that it could be full-fledged gharana as in Gwalior or Kairana. But the point is Jasrajji is popular and many folks whom i know have been able to start listening classical music . Of course nobody can point a finger at the tayyari and his voice.

Shri Coolkarni -
I am unable to open the links. I agree that some of our "successful" modern day singers were much better in younger days in many respects. Would love to check Pandit Jasraj out. Please check the links indicated by you whether they work.

Thanks. Strange that both are working now. May be something wrong with my computer itself yesterday.

Many thanks for the link. This is wonderful. May be I am speaking beyond me (for I do not have the ability to comment on such great maestros) but I have never heard anything better from Pandit Jasraj before. It is the way he touches the soul that not many others do.

This is really nice and I cannot stop listening again and again.

Mr. Krishnaa,

The lyrics, as given above, and the one that is sung by Panditji appears to have very few differences at some parts. May be due the Hindi pronunciation of the artist. Do you feel so? If yes, please attempt to post the corrections that are needed in the Lyrics posted by me.

Thanks
