If you are open to hear something different from the standard fare, here is one for you - Just three songs, 7 fairly detailed raga explorations including short tAnams, a sedate presentation, no showmanship, just divine music, focused purely on sowkhyam!

The start with "SrI rAmaM ravi kulAbdhi sOmaM" in nArAyaNa gauLa already gives us a glimpse as to what one can expect. 7 detailed Raga AlApanas follows, each treated uniquely by TGN. For example, check the treatments given to nATTakurinji, dhanyAsi, mohanam and mokhAri. In every AlApana, the approach of TGN is very evident - avoid thrills, focus on sowkhyam and go for the elegance that each of these rAgAs bring forth. And what returns by VVR!!! Each of them is filled with sweetness and a pleasure to hear! The combination was perfect today! For example, check how TGN treats the mohanam (he ended it in a nice way) and how VVR's return complete and complement the essence of the rAgA. The metered tAnam that followed in all the rAgAs in reverse order was wonderful - short and sweet! Kriti was treated with the weight it deserved and TGN aptly selected the perfect line for a short neraval! The kalpanAswarAs followed the reverse order and was concluded in a very simple and elegant manner. maNirangu is a rAga that I have found to be "calming" in nature, and the ending with the popular "mAmava paTTAbhirAma" was apt for the occasion.

Due to the nature of this concert, Nochur Ngaraj got relatively less time to play (I believe the tani was also cut short, possibly due to time constraints), but the way he blended with the mood was lovely and the team gelled very well!
