Prof SRJ lists chayagaula as Eka k^Riti raga!
It cant be as MD himself has kRtis in the rAga to his credit. One above and another "nIlOtpalAmbikE". And I know there are a few more.

It seems these aren’t many compositions in this raga except these two.
NIlOtpalAmbikE is one among the gaula series of 9 compositions on NIlotpalAmba.Eight of these songs starts with eight Vibhakthis, this particular song,Sambodhana vibhakthi.
According T.K.Govinda Rao,it is the janya of 15th mela with
Aro S R1 M1 P D1 P M1 P D1 S N3 S
Ava S N3 D1 P M1 G3 S R1 S

We all know DRS is so fast on the draw that he can shoot from the hip .

SRJ's definition of a Eka Krithi raga can change in no time if DRS puts up his krithi here :P :P

I agree with you and very well look forward to it!

But DRS Prof SRJ could not have missed Nilotpalambike since he lists Sarasvatya! There must be some logical reason which eludes me....

There is also a kRti of N.S.Ramachandran in the raga- "mInakshi".

I find Chayagaula slightly similar to pahraju in some sancahaaras, is that because both of them are from 15th mela and prayogas like pdp, mpdp?

Even I got the feeling of pharas in the opening lines of saraswatyA bhagavatyA. Difficult to explain why. Could be because of the nyAsa on madhyama. Also the jAru gamakas in some avarOhI phrase. But as you hear, the pharaju disappears and you get more and more of a feeling of malahari which is perfectly understandable because of the similarity in scales and the sharp swaras. Hear the nIlOtpAlAmbikE krti and pharas does not figure at all. You only get malahari and sAvEri.

The reasons for the decline of this rAga are clear:_ presence of closely allied rAgas with similar scale PLUS the advantage of not having vakratwa in them.

There is an error in the ArOhaNa by SRJ as given in article. Probably a typo.

The ArOhaNa is SRMPDDSNS* and the avarOhaNa is S*NDPMGSRS

Now I understand that Prof SRJ concluded on the basis of SSP!

DRS

It will be very nice if you can give us a lecdem showing the similarity to paraz, malahari and even the saveri interferences! Thanks

Very true. Opening of Saraswathya closely resembles madhuraamaba jayathi in pahraju.
Nilotpalambike doesnt..

Thanks for the clarification..
