Purandara dAsa’s padas (also known by the name dEvara nAmas) are listed here. Since the original meTTu of most of his compositions is lost, the rAgas are just indicative. Some of the compositions are sung in different rAgas too. Pages for all compositions will be added in due course
purandara dAsa has composed a variety of padas. One of his favorite themes seem Krishna’s childhood (bAla lIle). There are padas in vAtsalya bhAva as well as madhura bhAva. Another aspect he has dealt in many padas is dashAvatAra. He is critical of the society and it’s wrongful practices in some padas.(social themes). He was a true bhakta, and many padas dwell on nAma sankIrtane. Sometimes he can be questining and critisizing his God Purandara Vithala himself, and this can be seen in several of his nindA stutis. Some padas can be difficult to understand, in the form of riddles (chamatkAra) and can be having an inner meaning different from the obvious one. Many of his padas are in dAsya bhAva, where he considers himself a servant of Hari. He has composed a number of mangaLas as well; these are compositions that are sung at the end of a performance or a pooje.
