"Veena" Navaratri : 2014

Dear Rasikas,

This Navaratri, I wrote a blogpost each day, and the way it turned out (not planned) was it was about a different composer each day, and with some music clips on a kind of "Veena" everyday (this was sort of planned, since in the very first I wanted to bring in Mandolin Srinivas).

Good to see your post and your writing after a spell!

Very aptly, you start with U. Shrinivas's playing dEvi, brOva samayamitE. It's a clip from this year and he does look tired, but what pleadingly emotive playing! The percussion section is getting carried away, but how with restraint he plays!

What an excellent effort, what a musical treat! Thank you very much.
I hope everyone relives the Navaratri cycle over and over again with your Neelanjana posts.

I must share that we had extensive coverage of Navaratri on TV, as far as I know, this year.

There was Ramleela, the famous Shriram Kalakendra production in Delhi, once held outdoors and inaugurated every year by India's PM..with great choreography and music by Anil biswas as with verses from Tulsi Ramayan. On DD Bharati.

Sankara TV had lots of programs with live cast from Sringeri, Mysore etc. apart from Naavratri kritis by DKJ, Prince, others.

Podhigai had many grid programs including discourses by someone wearing Chandana tilaka.

Chandana had at least three great programs, the last one on Friday noon with a phone in program featuring an extremely well informed Yogini Sri Guru Maa.

SVB showed Brahmotsavam live.

There was the live address of Shri Bhagawat on DD. Modi spoke on AIR.

It felt good indeed!
