Lakshman Sir:

I was curious to know whether maisUr karigiri rAu lived during the same period of sadAShiva rAu? He was also a narasimha upAsaka as was the latter and hence my query.

Mysore Karigiri Rao (1853 - 1927) was much younger than Mysore Sadashiva Rao. They would have lived in the same timeframe, in the sense that Mysore Sadashiva Rao lived into 1870s (my guess) since Veene SheshaNNa (1852 - 1926 ) and Veene SubbaNNa (185? - 1938) trained under him.

Thank you, Sreeni Sir. Just read that he was responsible for notating authentic tunes of haridAsa compositions which are rendered by VN Padmini and available commercially.

Well, it seems like musician MS Sheela rendered karigiri rAu's compositions at the gAyana sabhA in bagalore recently: http://upcoming.yahoo.com/event/216515/. Anyone attended? Any audio clips available?

R.K.Srikantan and M.S.Sheela have given a commercial recording of Mysore Sadashiva rao's songs. It is being marketed by the Giri trading company.
Bangalore's Music radio station 'Amrthavarshini' - FM 100 MHz is broadcasting a special programme every monday evening at 9.00 based on his compositions. yesterday was the first episode. This is a repeat broadcast of a previous feature.

It'll be nice if someone could tape, convert and share the program here for us, definitely a treat.

dear Maruthi Suresh and other Mysore Sadashiva Rao's music lovers, I think you should get ' Apoova Sadashiva" written by one of the best musicologists of our times and a musician, S D Nagendra Shasthri, who shot into fame for his works on Jawalis ( about 500 ! in rare raagas and thaalas) . This book on sadashiva contains rare and hitherto unpublished original works of Mysore Sadashiva. A Varna in Pantuvaraali is a rare one to start with. There are finer points in his compositions like he gives tough sequence of sahithyas which , many a times , prevents you from taking comfortable breath while singing and hence challenging. Which can be compared to Sri Shyama Shasthri's challenging thaala - sahithya combinations in many of his compositions.

The compositions of Mysore Sadashiva Rao, with lyrics and notations, are available at musicresearchlibrary.net. The text is in kannaDa (or Telugu-I am not sure) and dEvanAgari.
