Does anyone know if any of these songs are available online (vocal). If so, links to these would be very much appreciated. Thanks a lot Lakshmanji.

Friends,

I have been reading the forum and learnt a lot and continue to learn. I have never heard about Guru Surajananda before. Is there article or information about him. Also, I found one recording from sangeethapriya under OST - Hanumanai anudinam ninai maname. It was really good. The lyrics transcend you to another world.

Any other input on him and recordings from this composer will be much appreciated.

ShrI svAmi surAjAnandA (as printed in the book of his compositions - gIta sangamA) has composed some beautiful pieces. Apparently he composed the sAhitya and five tunesmiths are mentioned: TM tyAgarAjan, Calcutta KS kr.shNamUrti, TKG, Thanjavur S kalyANarAman & DK jayarAman. The musicians who tuned them have rendered the songs. I know gangAdIshvaram is available in an old AVM recording of DKJ and rukminIpatE (priyAdarshiNi - beautiful ciTTasvaram), and muruganin marupeyar (bEhAg- who can forget MLV's rendition) are quite popular. Posters, could we have some audios of compositions from the above list?

I did not realize gangadeeshwaram was also by this composer. I checked back with the list of Lakshmanji. Indeed, it is. It is available for download under DKJ in sangeethapriya.

It is surprising that such good composer's songs have not been popularized by new singers. I have not heard Sudha sung any. Maybe Sanjay subrahmanyam should have sung as he is the student of Calcutta Krishnamurti.

If anybody can post audio clippings for other songs by this composer, it is very much appreciated.

I am sorry to have given wrong information.

KMRasika, Murugan maru peyar has been sung by Sudha. There is a commercial recording of it.

Not to discredit the above statement, but Smt. Ragunathan has rendered rukmiNipatE in a commercial recording for Sangeetha (which has long gone defunct).

Yes, she has learnt and adapted the fine touches of bEhAg from MLV who introduced the song to audiences. It is a popular composition.

Interestingly, I've rarely heard Sanjay render compositions of his guru, ShrI Calcutta Krishnamoorthy. I have, however heard him render rukmiNipatE in a concert and he did a stupendous AlApana and announced the song was tuned by his guru.

Dear all,

Very happy to see this forum, in response to some of your questions, I wanted to provide a brief about Guruji Surajananda.

Guru Surajanada, a venerable saint who lived most of his physical life in Chennai till he attained Mahasamandhi on 15 Sept 1992. A Kundalini Yogi, and a upasakar of Hanuman, Narisimha and Kali, Guru Surajananda has devotees all over the world, however he lived his physical life in a very humble manner without any publicity. There is little information in the public domain about this saint. A realised soul who had achieved the ultimate from a very early age, Guruji had a very keen interest in Classical music and the arts, and was a proficient Mridangist himself. I am ardent devotee of his, and every time I talk to any of his other devotees, I continue to learn and be dazzled by great miralcles he has performed and continues to perform even though he is no longer with us in physical form. He has changed and blessed so many lives of his devotees and continues to guide us in every way.

He had a very keen interest in music and played Mridangam very proficiently. During his life he had written thousands of compositions, many of which may be with devotees. In 1986, there was a book released named Geetha Sangamam, where 5 eminent musicians each tuned 5 of his compositions, namely T M Thiyagarajan, DK jayaraman, Calcutta Krishnamurthy, TS Kalyanaraman and T K Govindarao. The book release function was presided over by Sri Semmangudi Srivisa Iyer and Lalgudi Jayaraman with the first book being released by Dr S Ramanathan. He has composition in Tamil, Sanskrit and Kannnada and has authored philosophical books, mantras, slokams and even dramas which have become famous theatre productions. I recently heard that Sangeetha Ramprasad had released a wonderful CD's filled with his compositions tuned by Legend Sri T M Thyagarajan.

Guruji's samamdhi is situated in peaceful surroundings in Neelankarai, Chennai.

Dear All

Being devotee of Sri Guruji I would like to add some thing about Sri Guruji. Sri Guru Surajananda is a Kundalini Yogi and Hanuman, Narasimha and Mahakali Upasakar and has lead a simple life. He has performed lots of miracles but always does'nt like any publicity. His Adishtanam is at Neelankarai, Chennai, name of the Ashram is Yogalaya Ashram. Apart from Ashram at Neelankari, there is one more Ashram for Sri Guruji at Kumbakonam where his life size Marble Vigraha is worshiped. It is situated in between two small rivers of Kaveri situated in the highway from Kumbakonam to Tanjore. The Ashram named as Sri Gurusurajananda Gnana Peedam. He has also written books in tamil namely Thathuvangal 1008, Gnanacharam, Gnana Kelvigal 1008, Thathuva muthukkal, Thathuva Padalkal.

Sri Guruji's Jayanthi pooja is performed on 12th June every year and his Aradhana ( Guru pooja) is performed on 15th September every year. He has lots of devotees all over the world and everyone visit his Ashram regularly to get his blessings. Every day moring and evening poojas are performed in his both Ashrams at Chennai and Kumbakonam.

I am in the process of collecting all his composition sung by various musicians. Recently i bought CD released by Mrs Sangeetha. If some one could help me in providing the sites where i can download Guruji's songs sung by various musicians, it will be of great help for me.
Om Namo Bagavate Gurusurajanandhaya Namaha!
Sarvam Gurumayam Jagath!

Just think śrīrañjani minus the gāndhāraṃ. You can purchase the CD sung by Sangeetha marketed by Kalavardhani. She has included this song in it. I think it has a nice ciṭṭasvara appended at the end of the anupallavi and caraṇa.
