I believe this composition is by annamalai reddiar. can i have the lyrics and meaning for the same? heard a lovely rendering by MSS and another by Dr S Ramanathan

naDai annamE - (having) a swan-like gait
iDai pinnamE pera vandadana pAra vanciyE- whose heavy bosom seems to break the slender waist
ati viruppattuDan uraikkum vArtaiyai kEl - listen to these words that I say with eagerness

Great translation!

The last line is a ?? !!
selvi +dam (or tam): (of the selvi--which could be Lakshmi, a leading lady, a woman or daughter)
vAy: word, speech
uRum has multiple meanings: will stay, will happen, will match, etc.
Does this make any sense? 'For all such women (peNgaLukkellAm)--when they behold Murugan's six lotus like faces--their words of praise would match those of Lakshmi? Saraswathi is more apt. Yet, it could be that they would utter golden, rich (then, Laksmi is apt) words of devotion for Arumugan.
Rajani, hope it isn't too far-fetched...

The first verse is addressed to a vanjI, but the rest appear like the vanjI's lamentations...how do you connect the 2 parts?

Ravi, as you say, I was puzzled too, at first. I was glad Rajani picked it up and translated it so well. You have rekindled my doubts. The three verses are a bit foggy in giving a continuing sense of the person. I thought it was due to my lack of understanding. The song is charming. I remember coming across some obscurity in sense in a few songs when we discussed them on the sangeetham BB. The voice here is that of the composer who imagines himself to be the maiden (??) I am thinking of PeriAzhvAr for instance--who sees himself as the mother of Krishna. Do I make any sense? Rajani, what do you think?

sevvidazh did occur to me. It agrees with some of the other references! Your interpretation of the last line is not questioned. However, it means we have to take a u turn and 'read' all the rest of it in the same vein!

vanji is a young girl and usually a 'kuRaththi' who is explicitly called 'kuRavanji'

(there is a lot of inner meanings too!)
