Janani Janani Janani
Jagadkaarani poorani naaraniyee

Lyrics for the above song (Revathi ) please? Again it'd be great if I could have it in Tamizh

Whenever I Google for Janani , I get the Illayaraja song (Thaai mookambikai) as the result .

pArthan = arjun, but pArthan Isan does not make sense here.

pArthan----> could it be pAr tanil (pAr = world)?

Siva bestowed Pasupatastra to Arjuna by coming in the garb of kirATa - hunter

pArthan is not vishNu; pArthan = arjun; pArthasArathy = krishna (driver for arjun)

In this song pArthan does not seem to fit (pArthan's Isan should have a connection with pArthan but there is none here in this song). If as vgvindan says we can infer krAtArjunIyam here, why bring it without any connection when talking about dEvi's grace (wherein there is only an incidental mention of Isan's priyanAyaki)?

I doubt it is "pANDya dEsa" since in the anupallavi line there is mention of "kAmAkshi" and not "mInAkshi". It is about dEvi kAmAkshi in Kanchipuram.

Can it be pAr-tan-Isan - Lord of World?

I managed to get hold of the song and listened to it again. The phrase seems to be pATalIshapriya nAyakiyE or pATalIshan priya nAyakiyE.

pATalISa - Lord Siva's name at Tiruppadirippuliyur (Cuddalore) Between Pondicherry and Chidambaram -பாடலீசன் - pATala - Trumpet Flower - பாதிரி (Tamil pAdiri)

Post by mahakavi »

Makes perfect sense. KaDalUr Subramaniam singing about the dEvi at tiruppAdirippuliyUr (aka KaDalur). I would definitely vouch for "pATalIsap priyanAyakiyE"
as the authentic version.

If the pATalISa is confirmed, I would also suggest that it could be 'periya nAyaki' and not 'priya nAyaki'. The name of pArvati at Tiruppadirippuliyur is 'bRhannAyaki' - 'periyanAyaki' in Tamil

நீங்க சொல்றதும் கரெக்ட்தான்..

பாடலீசப்ப்ரிய நாயகியே... = பாடலீசனுக்கு பிரியமான அம்மனே!
சங்கதி கரெக்டா அங்கே உட்காருது

You are right
But, paadaleesa-priya naayakiye = paadaleesanukku priyamaana ammanae
if sung this way, it fits better than when sung Paadeelsa periya nayakiyee

narcot:
You are using "sh" (பரமேஷ்வரியே) instead of "S" for paramESwari(பரமேஸ்வரி).
Also it is not "kOTik kOTi" but just "kOTi kOTi", In Thamizh instead of "T' we pronounce it as "D" (kODi). That is OK

pADal is indeed song, but that is not the context here:
Although, the pATalISar temple in Kadalur is one of the pADal peRRa sthalams, the lord's name in tamizh is tOnrAtuNai nAthar - pATalISwara is the sanskrit name (not pADalISar)..probably because his complexion is like that of a pATali pushpam - (poNNAr mEniyan - tapta kAncana sannibham - reddish hued...DRS/CML help!!!) The word pATalISa appears in many of Kadalur Sunbramaniam's compositions- maybe his mudra?
The ambAL is indeed brihannAyakI/periya nAyakI - a divinely beautiful, and lifelike vigraham - and the temple itself is one of those ancient ones with large prAkAras (outer halls) - just doing a few pradakshiNas around the two temples (the Sivan and ambAl temples are separate, like in kAncIpuram IIRC, but within the same outer complex) will provide for the necessary daily exercise...I think that is how people in the olden days maintained their weight, in addition to their upavAsa/fasts...and 'palahAram' (somewhere along the way, temples became smaller, 'palahAram' became 'pala AhAram', and and lo and behold, people's waists have become more substantial!)

Isn't trumpet flower the same as "konRai malar" in Thamizh?

Thanks Mr.Mahakavi. One does tend to sing ParameSHvari though I try to avoid consciously. It is Kodi Kodi.. that 'k' in between was a mistake

But I do see a lot of tamizh songs being sung that way by renowned singers...especially SHonnan /SHonnal (he/she said) instead of sonnaal sonnaan.

Mr. grsastrigal : My music teacher has the cassette. I dont know how to upload from the same . Not too techsavvy :(
musicindiaonline.com has Kadri Gopalnath's instrumental fusion version if you would like to listen. But if you are an early riser and lucky too, you will probably get to watch Nithyashree sing this song on Doordarshan Podhigai (DD Tamizh) at 5.00 or 5.30 am on weekdays. They play her singing quite often. The schedule is not fixed. You will probably have to tune in everyday to find out if you are lucky :)

Patalim as a flower, is also confirmed by..a verse in Lalitha sahasrnamam... "Mahapadhmadavi samstha padali kusumapriya".

But I don't know whether Padali is KonRai. A search of "konRai" has the following......

"Common name : Indian Laburnum
Botanical name : Cassia fistula Linn.
Local name : Konrai
Hindi name : Amaltas
Sanskrit name : Aragvadha
Religious association : Konrai is a favourite flower of Lord Shiva.
Ecological zone : Terrestrial
Distribution : Throughout India
Status : Not Threatened
Uses : The leaf extract is used to treat ringworm and other cutaneous infections and the flower decoction is used to destroy intestinal worms and to cure leprosy. The wood is used for making carts and other agricultural implements. It is tolerant to atmospheric pollutants and acts as climate purifier "

rs,
By describing the temple, you have made me nostalgic - yes it is my native place.

VGV,
I have spent many, many days visiting the temple - I would travel to Cudalore from Pondicherry! I fell in love with the temple the first time I went there. The pATalISar temple and another hanumAn temple there used to be my favorite places at that time!
