The Pallavi (except last word) is in Sambodhana (addressing) and hence "tAraya mAm" also fits.

Rest of the kriti is in Prathama (first case, Subject). I am unable to translate due to this.

Is there a different version of the Sahitya? Lakshman Sir may be able to help.

"bhramarO pAkAri nuta paramESvara SrIvatsa krpAkarO" - Even in Prathama, the Visarga cannot become 'O' in such places, due to the consonant that follows.

... The kriti composed by Dr VVS on Thyagaraja Swami is "Thyagaraja Mahaguro" , Purvikalyani, Rupakam and I have sung it once at the Academy and last year's Cleveland Fest too. ...

I agree with Smt. रजनी.
There are Samskrita errors.

Since the epithets of the saint are really beautiful here, I thought we could look at the meaning anyway, keeping the grammar questions aside.
For simplicity I am taking all the phrases as Prathama.

P:

tyAgarAja mahAguruh - The great Guru Tyagaraja,
dayAkarah - the compassionate one,
tArayatu mAm - may (he) redeem me.

A:
sAgarAri kamaNDalOdbhava nadI taTa vihArah - the one residing on the banks of River Kaveri, who originated from the water-jug of Sage Agastya( who drank up the ocean and is hence its foe)
