To all the rasikas of D.K.Pattammal... Most of us would have read 'Carnatic Summer'. It was the era of 78 RPM records. Personally , it was through such records played through radio that we learned about the songs of MS, NCV, DKP , Madurai Mani , GNB. and others. Though there were concerts, most people of that generation living in small rural areas got acquainted with classical music only through these records played in radio . Saregama may not mind if we place all those nice songs of DKP in a website . instead of uploading in youtube. The problem is getting those records. Rasikas may come across either tube uploads or links to audio for the following records. ( not rendered in concerts in later years please). All these were solo records.
---------------------------------------------------------------
song title in tamil first and transliterated title within brackets)
Ananda Bairavi)
5) சாமிகி சரி எவரே -( Sri Krushna samiki sari evvarae ..) what is the ragam of this nice song?
7) பஞ்சாஷட் பீட ரூபிணி - கர்நாடக தேவகாந்தாரி (panchaa shat pee(t)a roopini- Carnataka Devagandhari)
-----------------------------------
Kindly bear with me for not using the standard transliteration tool ).Pattammal devotees can easily guess
even if they cannot read tamil script. ( I hope)
I am creating a website for D.K.PATTAMMAL songs and will be grateful for help.
If there are no objections, I will give a second and third list . of ten songs each

1934.. DKP was just 16 then. Kalki has reviewed her concert and mentioned her rendering of Munnu Ravana in Todi.with appreciation. .. Thanks to APKoil N Sapthagireesan who contributed the mp3 of the original 78 RPM record, Sri Ramachander site for English transliteration and translation of the Thyagaraja kruthi and Sri.V.Govindan's 'Thyagaraja vaibavam' site for thamizh translation, here we have the reclaimed gem.

Just two days back, I was lucky to get the vintage 78 rpm rendering of Maamava Pattaabhiraamaa' ( manirangu).
by D.K.PATTAMMAL .
I have uploaded it to youtube and also in the site dedicated to DKP songs of those years. ( Dr.Pasupathy;s blog post with advts of that 'plate' in 1945 came in handy. DKP would have been around 27 then!
I took the liberty of using Sri.V.Govindhan's devanagari script of lyrics and meaning of the song. )

May be sharing the Hindolam song on the reverse side of the plate. ( bajare gopalam) in a few days.

On this website the lyricist of the song tIrAda viLaiyATTu piLLai is shown as Krishniah. The song is generally believed to be the work of Subramania Bharati. Is he the one who set it to music?

Sri. Lakshman ji -> 'Theeraadha Vialiyaattu Pillai' is a famous and lovely poem by Subramanya Barathy. D.K.PATTAMMAL made it an immortal song in Vedhala Ulakam film by AVM in 1948. The music director was Sri.Sudharsanam. ( brilliant)
For purists who object to studio orchestration, the background music ( especially in the beginning of the song may be an 'ear-opener') . The song was a ragamalika ( beginning with Sindhubairavi, ...kamaj, shamugapriya and one more. ( it escapes me right now..may be Mand).

privileged to present it here

I learnt number of Bharathiar songs, more than 60 years ago, listening to Mrs. Music (பாட்டம்மாள்). What a clarity of pronunciation! Her songs demonstrate how the accompanists, particularly Mridangam players should play softly. Nowdays mridangam players insist on keeping the speaker volume so high. They ignore Thyagaraja's comment 'sogasugA mridanga tALamu jathagUrchi'. Recently T.M Krishna gave a concert without mridangam. The songs could be heard and enjoyed.

Sri.Lakshman ji, I dont know. why the lyricist is given wrong name.
Such things may be due to generation gap.
For example, NCV classic 'PiLLaip piraayatthile' of Subramanya Barathy is mentioned as by Suddhananda Barathy in the youtube . ( donated by saregama)

Another lovely Subramanya Barathy song . rendered by D.K.PATTAMMAL
'CHINNAN CHIRU KiLiye KaNNamma , selav kaLanjiyame'.
http://freemp3host.com/play:13402
The song was a 78 rpm record. Sri.Lakshman ji may know the likely year of the release. It was not a film song. It begins with Kamaj ragam stanza. The Ragamalika has I remener about 5 ragams. Information will be very useful if available.

Lakshman ji is requested to give the standard transliteration.
Also kindly let me know if the record is complete.
This is supposedly from an old 78 rpm record.
What ragams are there? I am not sure. Kindly help

I found a wonderful presentation of SRI SATHYANARAYANAM by Dhikshithar ( suba panthuvarali) in sujamusic.wordpress.com today. The lyrics in devanagari script( sanskrit original), transliteration ,and translation in English are given there. Very nice. D.K.Pattammal 's rendering ,in my memory and opinion is simply superb. I have lifted the entire thing from the above blog and created a page for this magnificient kruthi and rendering.

May be true for gents but before 1935, it was unthinkable for brahmin girls and ladies to perform in public concerts ( leave alone 'dancing'!). his blog post is by 'GAMAKAM'.
https://sites.google.com/site/dkpattamm ... makam-blog
**********************************************************************************************************

'Gamakam ' (Sri.Lalitha Ram') writes lovely tamizh and it is not within my reach to give exact translation. Have tried to give a rough translation of salient points.

https://carnaticmusicreview.wordpress.c ... pattammal/
----------------------
( para-1)
Though Smt.PattammaL was a pioneer in many things in music, we can say her most noteworthy among them were her singing Muthuswamy Dheekshithar krithis and the compositions of Papanasam Sivan and the poems of Subramanya Barathy, as the MAIN items in her concerts and popularizing them ..Smt.DKP had the rare privilege of learning from Ambi Dikshithar and later from another eminent direct disciple of Dheekshithar Sri.T.L.Venkatarama Iyer. Smt.DKP was endowed naturally with a sweet yet non-shrill voice , sruthi-suddham and perfect layam even when singing in slow tempo. Thus when DKP sang Dheekshithar kruthis, they were like the majestic gait of caparisoned royal elephant . In fact some of the Dheekshithar krithis became famous among the people because they were rendered by Smt.DKP. Striking example is Maamava Pattaabi rama of eternal glory. .
https://sites.google.com/site/dkpattamm ... attabirama ( link added by RSR)
. DKPattammaL came to be known as 'Dheekshithar Krithi' PattammaL !
para-2
Papanasam Sivan considered DKPttammaaL as his own daughter. The full credit for gathering the pearls of krithis which were born in his imagination, as soon as they appeared and made them popular through concert songs and gramophone records , goes to Smt.DKP and her younger brother Sri.DK Jayaraman.
-----------------]
Even before Tamizh Isai Sangam was formed, it is a fact to be noted that DKP sang many Tamilzh krithis in her concerts. The special feature of DKP concerts was the way in which she sang the krithis of Arunachalak kaviiraayar, Suddhaananda Barathy, and Marimutha Pillai, losing herself in the krithi lines and making the hearts of the listeners to melt too.
The so many thamizh virutthams, and hymns set to suitable ragams from 'Thevaaraam', 'Thiriruvaachakam, Thiruvempaavai and such, received great appreciation from the listeners. "

i have personally interacted about 6 or 7 years back with Sri TT Srinath. He is a wonderful personality, i know him , he does not know me , he takes a lot of passion as a organisational and behavioural consultant. in work because of past , i had some nice time with him.

I never knew that TT Srinath is grandson of TTK and I also did not know that music academy Dr Malathi Rangaswami is also part of TTK family til I read the link below. Here is a nice writeup of Shri TT Srinath on DKP and a brief mention of Vijay Siva . it was so nice for him to mention that DKP sang a concert for 2 hours with only tamburA.

as it was related to DKP amma im posting it here:

[nenje ragam tanam pallavi in jaganmohini

while i was watching the DKP amma's 100 celebrations

i heard nithyasri mahadevan sayaing this popular RTP in jaganmohini was released in 1939 as rpm records
where DKP amma sang the complete rtp (in a brisk way) in just "6mins"

here is link of nithyasri mahadevan saying about it
https://youtu.be/rmuNl-k7Sdc?t=333

does anyone have that record of RTP in 6 minutes. please do share it
it would be very intresting to listen the rtp in a brisk way by DKP]

im interested in 5-6 min recording of jaganmohini RTP from 1939 78rpm recording.

Film historian Randor Guy has said that nothing survives of Thyagabhoomi film. There was a fire or some such thing and the prints were destroyed.

yeah RSR ji, i have heard this nenje RTP (of later date) N-no. of times, which is available on YTB and commercially.
In fact i started liking this recording, without knowing this form of music was called Ragam-tanam-pallavi.
back then the words "nenje-nenai-anbe" and magical DKP amma's voice attracted me.
the very first time i heard it on the documentary on DKP called nauka charitham.
