Know more about him:

The great Musician was born on 03.04.1947. He is a classicist of traditional out fit who ‘paints’ in glorious colours the fine shades of raga, kriti and swara in his numerous concerts. He was the disciples of Sangeetha Booshanam O.V.Subramanian, Padmabushan Lalgudi C. Jayaraman and Sangeetha Kala Nidhi T.M. Thygarajan. The Tiltes won by him are “Sangeetha Kala Sagara” Hyderabad, Nada Gana Kala Praveena Sangeetha Samraj’ Madurai, Nadhana Booshanam Sanmuganatha Sangeetha Sabha” New Delhi. 'vArija nayana' contains 3 caraNas. As usual with CM musicians, OST also sings only the last caraNa and that too with error.
Who gave these CM musicians permission to pick and choose portions from compositions?
And then they conduct Aradhana with UnchavRtti. What a farce?

Sorry to say that you are being unduly harsh. Having never heard this song before, I am happy to have an opportunity to hear it even if it is abbreviated.

Poor Sri OST !
When we had him at Bhairavi Sabha in December 2010, he sang only Sri Tyagaraja kritis. Nothing else!
For that, he earned a few harsh comments from a few Members.

Shri VG -- I have come across many artists including stalwarts skipping one or two charanam

in their concerts. let us not go in to details.

In this era of shameless self-promotion, I was surprised to note that OST did not have a wikipedia article on him.

So I've gone ahead to create one. Please add further details to it if possible.

Here is an interview given by Sri OS Thyagarajan.

It is a great pity that enogh write up does not exist in our forum.
He is the most dedicated classical Carnatic Musician and all his concerts are marked by clear lyrics diction.

SSI and LGJ had very high regard for OST's chaste and wholesome style, imagination.I recall SSI telling men the Eighties that OST is true traditionalist and torchbearer of our CM.If I am not mistaken. he even took lots o pointers from LGJ showing his desire to improve
It is still a mystery to me that with such high praise OST has not been given the recognition. Viewed in any light--Sruthi adherence, laya intricacies, repertoire of songs not only of the trinity but also of several modern composers--OST scores very high!!
Lets hope it is not too late for recognition!!

OST will be surely recognized . He for many years was working in shalimar paints or something as an accounts officer or something. Way back in 2002 the late SV Krishnan told this bit of info in his sabayorgale speech in ragasudha . Then he came full time to music concert circuit . Please do remember his peers are TVS and TNS - each of them have achieved and OST is almost there. His GURU TMT is hardly known to the basic CM rasikas and OST also is bit like that .

One thing he could have done is to perhaps sing more compositions other than T and also sing bit more RTP. His ideals is to stick with Sadguru thyagaraja thru his guru TM Thyagarajan. He sings the first four songs without any break as though it is a 4 ragamaliga song -such vigour and polish . I did not know Ramnad krishnan when I started hearing him , but now his music is so much of carbon copy of Ramnad krishnan . In the next 2 to 3 years he will get the coveted award . Personally for my chittis marriage in 1977 at mayavaram OST was the vocalist who sang for the concert. I cannot recollect every song as a fraudigy toddler but he sang the last song nee nama rooopamulaku in sowrashtram :D , what a sowrashtram it was - he sings the same sowrashtram even now with the same vigour??

There is a point.A seem to have hit the nail on the head.As OST packs with several Thagaraja Kritis, the main item is also generally a Thyagaraja Master piece. There will be no time for RTP in his concerts. He could perhaps reduce Thyagaraja's numbers by one or two, include others compositions and RTP.
But in TTD SVBC he has included Annamacharya Kritis. Occassionally he has sung Muthuswamy Dikshitar's also.
In a recent concert in Bengaluru OST gave a brief speech giving his direct Lineage to Thyagaraja and he finds nothing wrong in singing only Thyagaraja Kritis.
However whatever these factors are ,he deserves the MA recognition.
