KaumAram and Mantra (Shyam),

I downloaded the Chembai_full_concert.zip file earlier today and found that it has some CRC errors. Fortunately, all the files were recovered successfully except 07 ParidAna miccitE. KaumAram, Can you kindly upload just that seperately in any form? Also, I have split all the files of the concert into two parts and have uploaded to rapidshare. Following are the links. (ParidAna miccitE in my zip files does not correspond to the size mentioned in the .txt file from KaumAram).

http://rapidshare.de/files/14116204/Che ... cert-I.zip
http://rapidshare.de/files/14116753/Che ... ert-II.zip

I am presently downloading the Mumbai concert and I shall upload it within an hour or two.

Thanks,
vrbadri.

KaumAram,
I have uploaded the other .zip file into the three following links. Again I had the CRC problem. Don't know if its just me. However, I have uploaded what I could unzip. It has all the files from 3 onwards to the end (1 and 2 were not zipped, I presume). As far as I noticed only the last file (Thillana senjuruTTi) is smaller than what was mentioned in your zip file. So, can you upload the last file along with songs 1 and 2 (that is, if you have them) when you can?

http://rapidshare.de/files/14123009/Che ... 9-66-A.zip
http://rapidshare.de/files/14122128/Che ... 9-66-B.zip
http://rapidshare.de/files/14124725/Che ... 9-66-C.zip

Thanks,
vrbadri.

This doesn't have Thaye yasodha (due to rapidshare file size contraint). Will send that link separately.

Dear all,

Thought I will make a new beginning as Srkris works towards to the new site. Hence the prayer while commencing this.

I am sorry to have troubled all of you while posting the two concerts of Chembai through storeandserve. If any one of you require any individual songs to be posted, I will post it through rapidshare.

Trust all of you enjoyed listening to the concert.

Meena: Thanks for the information about the speaker.

Dear Kaumaaram sir, very much appreciate you posting the chembai concerts. Could you please upload the repeated songs in the navarathri series (I presume that they are the same songs but are different renditions). The completist in me is speaking out here!

Thanks again

What is the sAhityam for this lovely kalyANI piece? As far as I can make out, it is in malayalam, and doesn't it begin with 'chandana maNam'? And I assume that it is on krishNA because there is a reference to 'mEGA vaNNan'.
Thanks.

I had posted the short RTP in Bhairavi (under RTP thread), rendered by Chembai. Here are the links for the entire live concert:

The violinist and mridangist are most probably MSG and TVG. I dont think there is any ghatam or morsing.

It is a commercial recording, by the way.

I see that the file sizes for the Live Chembai concert are too small. Is the link correct or am I the only one facing this problem?

I saw these at Music world last week.

The Chembai staple Karuna_Cheivan is nicely rendered once again. I guess there are a few songs that Chembai has made his own. Is it because he had unearthed them and after his stamp on it with his unique style, no one dared to touch it for fear of not measuring up to Chembai? I am listening to Karuna_Cheivan after quite a long time and what a refreshing song it is in the hands of Chembai and Co. I have few songs that do something to me at a deep enough place in me which is hard to describe and this song is one of them.

in the pantuvarali there is a pure anusvara aalapana of the raga (which quite sometime ago Ramakrishnan wrote about) which is a very special feature of Chembai. It is so delightful and not any othe artiste does that!

Let me pretend to be scholarly here... ;)

Gumpita gamakam:

Belongs to vocal music and is called Humpita by Govinda Dhikshtar. It is a two dimensional gamaka indicating both an upward and a downward movement. Eg. A note of a siren.

I have not listened to the Chembai piece that CML pointed to ( I soon will ) but does the effect chembai produces match the above definition.

Well, Chembai sings with a closed mouth...then that will be a

Mudrita gamaka : a note sung with a closed mouth

And now I get Meenaji's 'pun' :) ;)
