Dear Rasikas
I would like to know if anyone has a rendering by Nedunurigaru of any of the following:
1. mOhanarAmA mukhajitasOmA (mOhanam)
2. teratIyagarAda (gaulipantu)
3. chakkani rAjamArgamu undaga (kharaharapriyA)
4. swara rAga sudhArasa (SankarAbharaNam)
I am in the process of learning these kritis and I would like to have renditions by this unique vidwAn as benchmarks. A simple search of this topic did not uncover any mention of these kritis nor were they available on sangeethamshare.
Thanks in advance

Thanks, arunsri. Clearly, my search on sangeethapriya was slipshod. I am very pleased to have these renderings pointed out to me. Of course I would dearly love to get my hands on a rendering by NK of the other two kritis, mohanarama in particular. In my opinion, NK has a unique inside track on Mohanam.arunsri wrote:Under KS Jaishankar's link in Sangeethapriya

Nedunuri-LGJ was a great partnership. I was fortunate enough to hear a number of their concerts in the 80s.

Re: Nedunuri Krishnamurthy
Nedunuri Krishnamurthy was born 10 October 1927
in Pithapuram, East Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh to Rama Murthy Panthulu and Vijayalakshmi.
He was under influence of his mother who sang Ashtapadis, Tarangas and the Adhyatma Ramayana kritis. She had a great influence on him while growing up.
He joined the Maharaja’s Music College at Vizianagaram in the year 1940 and received initial training in Violin and Vocal from the Dwaram Narasinga Rao Naidu. In 1949, he was influenced by carnatic vocalist, Sripada Pinakapani, and under his guidance developed his style of music.
Nedunuri Krishnamurthy worked as Principal of S.V.College of Music and Dance, Tirupati; M.R.Government College of Music and Dance, Vizianagaram; Government College of Music and Dance, Secunderabad; and retired as Principal of G.V.R Government College of Music and Dance, Vijayawada in 1985.
Was awared prestigious title of “Sangeeta Kalanidhi” in the year 1991…
Aesthetic grace, excellent style, technical elegance, rhythmic accuracy and captivating melody are the essential qualities of South Indian Classical Music.
Sangita Kalanidhi Nedunuri Krishnamurthy is the embodiment of all these aspects. It is no wonder that he is one of the most popular Carnatic vocalists of our times, charming rasika(s) old and young, with his mellifluous, bhava-laden music. Nedunuri has worked relentlessly in blending together the art and science of music, thereby appealing even to a modern rasika, with traditional classical music. Thyagaraja shines as the brightest star in the firmament of his wide repertoire. His foremost contribution is the setting to tune of 108 compositions of Annamacharya, the 15th century saint-poet of Andhra Pradesh. ....
A concert in his memory..

Re: Nedunuri Krishnamurthy
My heartfelt condolences to his family. On several occasions, I listened to him live in concerts in Tirupati and Visakhapatnam. I still remember visiting him at his home in MVP colony, Visakhapatnam when I was an engineering student at Andhra University a few years ago, when my Guru sent me and a few other music students to his home, as Sri Nedunuri wanted to start teaching Sri Narayana Theertha Tharangams to everyone interested. He always followed the traditions set by his predecessors when it comes to Classical music. May his soul rest in peace.

What a vidwan! He could have lived as long as his guru did...
His rich tradition, repertoire, lively presentation and stage presence cannot be easily forgotten. With all his traditional approach, he had his own style and flair.
Condolences to his family and his students.

Re: Nedunuri Krishnamurthy
I was fortunate to listen to his maiden concert at navaratri mandapam, Trivandrum during the eighties (IIMC MC on Violin and VR on mridanga)
He sang an exquisite Mohanakalyani (seve srikaantam). the main suite Natakurinji was dealt with in great detail true to the traditions .
He also rendered a Sloka from Bhakti Manjari and I still remember the Dhanyasi (a 'made for Nedunuri' raga!)
Above all an 'Aachaaraseelan'. Pranaams!

I am bit allergic to Brigga oriented music for obvious reasons. But listening to Shri Nedanuri Krishnamurthy Sir, Shanmugapriya RTP I feel Brigga with good Raga bhavam is divine. The shanmugapriya RTP in is his recently released RTP is stunning. Several musicians make brigga oriented singing a vocal acrobatics. Nedanuri Sir is different & scholarly music.

Well, Semmangudi mama never countenanced another vidvan singing too much! A particular vidvan once confided that "Semmangudikku aduttava romba pAdinA pidikkadu". He got the same question from Mama. "Ennada ivvaluvu nEram paDarey!" - why you are singing for so much time?" for a rAgA like karaharapriya. The vidvan later heard Mama himself sing it - and reported "he has sung for 1 hour and he didn't like me singing for long!"mahesh3 wrote: ↑12 Jan 2007, 19:20 http://www.hindu.com/fr/2006/12/29/stor ... 850300.htm.
"Nedunuri recalls with embarrassment how, as an inexperienced, young performer, he had presented a disproportionately elaborate exposition of Ahiri, a minor raga, before a stalwart like Semmangudi! "While appreciating my creative ability, he affectionately cautioned me to properly understand the range and scope of a raga. This is a lesson to youngsters. Proportion in music is very important."
Surutti...downloading it now. Prashant, many thanks for these uploads.
What about Surutti as main or kedaragoWLa? Sri Lalgudi made the former in two KGS concerts one with gItaRtamu and another with Sri venkata girISam.
And the latter is a Nedunuri staple with tulasi bilva!
