That Vairamangalam concert was at Swathi sabha, review was in The Hindu.
It is his second death anniversary next month.I have his 96 Kalpathy concert where he sang Bhairavi RTP,unfortunately that part accidentally got erased from the tape.
I have a VCD of a chamber concert held in Chennai.

Never knew that Vairamangalam had passed away 2 years ago! I was hoping to catch one of his concerts next time I went back home...

A great vidwan indeed.

Thank you for uploading his music.

I am equally sorry to learn that Vairamangalam has passed away two years back. I learnt couple of songs from him during my short stay of 4 months at Chennai during 80s.

Parnamamyaham(Gowla);Deva Deva Kalyamithe(MM Gowla);Pahimam Parvathi Parameshwari(Mohanam)& Lalithe Sri Pravuddhe(Bhairavi) are the lovely songs he taught me.
I have listed them as a mark of respect to Guruji.

Nick
Here is a delightful track from a concert with MN Ganeshapillai-T Nagaraja-MN Kandaswamy-1968

It is so sad that though TKR announces that the audience has been waiting for the Thani , the person who recorded this concert decided to save on audio tape by editing it out.

But we can still count our Blessings.

The track is a delightful one.TKR takes a dig at sleepy members of the audience , sings some exotic swaras for the first krithi in this clip(eppadi manam) and the Devadi Deva is fit for the Gods.

Nick - A pint of Guinness pours slightly faster than 10 KBPS mate :)

Hope you get hold of the track. I find it amazing that you are downloading, considering you and Cool-ji are in Madras. Do what I did .. get over to his place and I reckon you'll have more music than you bargained for!!

Actually I'll be seeing him in a few days.

But my wait was rewarded by some grand music which I am now enjoying!

i just came across this. He is quite hilarious in his "commentary" at the beginning (although you have to know tamizh) :)!!

But please be forewarned that the recording quality is NOT good as there is "dragging" of the tape from which this was digitized by whoever that did it. That is a significant impediment in enjoying the krithi - but it does gets better after a while.

I am posting it mainly for his sort of "stand-up comedy like" act at the beginning :)

Mr PG Aiyar

It will be quite appropriate if you make your requests and leave some time for the request to pass through our systems-before being answered.
Especially since you are not satisfied even if a small four minute bit is left out-from a 90 minute request.
Please go through your first request under post 80 .Now after I take the trouble to reupload it , you bring up this Ikha naina track from nowhere.
And Now as I was searching for this, you dont even leave 24 hours to remind us again.
Please Please go a bit soft on this kind of followup and rest assured that someone will be working on it.
Regards.

Dear Sir: Thanks for the upload of Ikanaina. I fully understand your views and was bitten by the bug of TKR's music and hence this nuisance of mine. I will be patient henceforth. I also understand you have a tight schedule in India. I thank you very much for the patience. May God bless you and your family, Sir.

In the recent concert of bharath kumar,Ashtika samAjam narasimhan in his usual speech always encourages the artist . But as usual in his trademark style he will recollect one of the songs and compare with an artist ,atleast 50 years back to his home town temple therezhendur near mayavaram.

While comparing the artist of today , his memories raced back to TK rangAchari's bhairavi in the same upachAramulanu and he said that TKR's bhairavi is simply too good. Any help or pointers(uploads, sangeethapriya) to know about TKR and his bhairavi is welcome . I wish Smt Neela rAmgOpAl can share her gnaanam of her guru TKR.Any old timers can also recollect about TKR.

Today is the Birth Centinary of Mahavidwan Sangeetha Ratnakara TK rangachari Avl.
His Nayaki niraval still lingering in my mind. His concerts with vocal support of his prime disciple Vairamangalam Lakshminarayanan were all memorable. Let us seek his blessings today.

Truly extraordinary musician , I am listening to him in the last few years beginning with his extra ordinary tatvameruga tharama in garudAdhwani , he is just too good. May I have access to the nAyaki niraval, if you have the same or pointers to sangeethapriya .

+1; a great musician; what a voice. He was one of the great musicians who could not get the slots in the prevailing golden generation of musicians.

TK Rangchari, Sattur Subramaniam and many other Annamalai university graduates (KS Narayanaswami (veena), ... ) had a same predicament. Annamalai university music department in 1930 - 40s can be thought of as equivalent of Stanford Univ in terms of the quality of grads.
