I don't know how to number or sort the legends in numerical order (other than chronological).. But here is one more.
63. Prof. Mysore V. Ramarathnam, living legend and contemporary of legends..

There is no need to bother about the numbering.I just picked up a set of legendary names(who are longer with us), which Carnatica once used to organise a LEC DEM in Chennai and thought of finding out If I was aware of all their Music through recordings.

And so I have been picking one at a random and trying to post so that others also can share my experience.

Thought i should let you know.Having said that , thanks for the tracks.

72. S. Balachander

Kindly confirm if this RTP is in Vakulabharanam

This RTP is Just Excellent & Superb.
Coolji, I think, it's Lalgudi on the violin ?
Coolji, one more question- If u have recordings of the famous Late BS Rajam Iyengar, who has sung ksheera sAgara shayana(devagAndhari)& jagadOdharana, they also can be U/L in due course of time.

Yes, the RTP is in vakuLAbharaNa.

Yes, DRS. I meant Rajayyangar only. It's said that he was the one who put that great tune to jagadhoDarana in hindusthani kApi ? which MSS also followed and which has become so famous.

The difference in Mayamalava Gowla & Vakulabharanam is only in Nishadam which is so nicely brought by the great Balachander.

Manjuravare- jagadOddhArana was tuned by biDAram kRShNappa. Became a rage in the hands and voice of Rajayyangar and was carried further by MSS.

Coolji- Many thanks for this Omnibus Collection ! I had heard only those two famous songs. The rest of the songs in this collection, I had not heard from BSR recordings. As rasikas, we should listen to these recordings once in a way, that's how we can pay tribute to these great masters.

Thanks for the Raja Iyengar. I have heard him at Malleshwaram Sangeetha Sabha during the 70's. If I remember it correctly, his family accompanied him on the Violin, Mridangam etc. For one of his songs he pointed his finger at his son (may be son-in law) and started singing "Payyero payyero chennagi payyero"..

Yes.Mali's disciple.
I had never heard him before.I set about searching for his music only after I heard Sowmya speak highly of his Music.

And it took me a full long year to get this recording of a Concert.
Ah ! All The Musicians who changed the landscape of CM and how little is left of them , for future generations to acknoweldge their merit.

Have you got to the Garudhadhwani part ?
With MSG for support, this clip is right up there with TK Rangachari' s dandy rendering , on top of the heap.

Thanks for anticipating the clip request.

Have a Nice day.It was great watching your brother -today morning-teach his disciples and then prepare for a Concert with DurgaPrasad in the evening at Nanganallur.
Oh ! the sincerity with which a disciple learns from His Guru.
I am sure if the Guru had asked them to jump off the LIC building , they would have done it without batting an eyelid.

It was great to watch a Vidwan prepare his instrument for the evening. So Much care is taken with everything..

DRS- In the book "The HINDU Speaks on Music", there is an article on Asthana Vidwan Belakavadi Srinivasa Iyengar, published in Hindu paper on 04 Jan 1959
( Author- TB Narasimhachar). In this, it's mentioned that , I quote
" It may be pointed out that it was he ( Belakavadi) who set the tune for the popular Purandaradasa Devaranama "Jagadoddharana" in Kapi raga."

( It may also be mentioned here that Belakavadi has composed songs in all the 72 Mela ragas and won the prize of Rs 5,000/-(remember it's value 70 years ago) instituted by Mysore Maharaja. Belakavadi was a disciple of Veena Subbanna.)

dEvi Sthuthi- A kannada book of 108 songs by Muthiah Bhagavathar is compiled by Belakavadi. I don't know whether it is by senior or by junior. I really don't know about his mela krithis. It will be interesting to know about his compositions, his mudra etc., Even Mysore Musicians have not popularised these compositions. RKS or Mysore Rama Ratnam are the right vidwans to tell us about Belakavadi's compositions.
