Very interesting...BTW, he refers to the gamakas of the "Tanjavur bani"....I am ashamed to admit that although I have been listening to music from a number of years and hail from the district, I had never heard about this bani! Could someone enlighten me....

The description of his sadhakam is also relevant for our discussion on HM-CM - it is just a matter of putting in the required effort...

Kulkarniji/others, some samplers of the younger Srikantan please...if he can sing like this at 85+, I can only imagine what he must have been like in his 30s and 40s!

That hard to get a concert of this master? In my experience, the only upload was that of a few Purandara Dasa krithis in Pittsburgh. Surely, better samples are out there.

patience...that is the key.
you will not be disappointed.
and remember we have one of his star disciples here , too.
as an active member.
Me, with no formal knowledge and contacts , if I can muster this much,
How much can a Shishya do for his master ??
And for rasikas at Large ??

Thanks Prashanth for agreeing to do this despite your commitments...if you can find the details I volunteer to handle the logistics although I will be tied up with travel until end of this month. I am likely to be in Bangalore sometime in the first half of next month and can collect the CDs from the trust and despatch to interested members. Of course if we have volunteers from Bangalore, it would be easier...

Meanwhile, I am awaiting the translation!

The girl who ventured to give the suggestion "Oh Brahmin , get married soon " was greeted with this response.

"Now come ,you be my Wife !"

(Now folks , dont get worked up with the Brahmin part of it.It is just a colloquial way of addressing a bachelor!):)

I called the trust and spoke with Mr. Kumar. The 2 CDs are available at a cost of Rs. 500 [including courier charges]. I also inquired about the availability of Sri Srikantan's CDs on the Mysore Maharaja's krithis as well as on Ganesha krithis. Details are forthcoming and will be posted here.

As to availability in the US, apparently a relative of Sri Srikantan is visiting the US on the 22nd. Mr. Kumar will get me her email ID [which I will post here with his permission], and those interested can email her directly and arrange to procure the CDs from here.

Hope this info suffices - in case of any more questions, please post.

Vid. Ramakanat spoke to me today and I have informed him about your requests. He said he will do the needful. Only problem with the sending them abroad is, it is expensive. But Ravi wants them, i will coordinate with Vid.RSS and see what can be done.

Yes, even the Sri Vidya Krithi Rathnamala ( 2 Cd's) ob HH JCRW compositions and Ganesha kriti Rathnamala ( 2 Cd's) is available. Generally one CD cost is Rs.150.00.

He learnt a lot of his music from his older brother, the great violin vidwan and my late guru, Sangeetha Kalaratna Shri. RK Venkatrama Shastri. When we see RK Shriramkumar play the violin and do lecdems on Shri Mutthuswami Dikshitar, it's plainly apparent where he gets his vidwat and his musical genes from.

What a terrible thing. What bad news.

But what a wonderful thing that he kept singing with such energy and creativity at 90-plus.

There is going to be an unfillable gap in this December's Music Academy schedule.

Condolences to his family, friends and students.
