Wonderful interview . RKM is so young and his music is very very impressive . The comparison to Harry Potter character is apt .

Wow... in a world where many established artists have "day jobs," how does a young man come to Chennai from USA and become a full-time pro carnatic musician? Even with family housing and support, it is an amazingly courageous thing to do.

Hats off to him!

I wrote my thoughts about his music in Kutcheri Reviews some days ago. He continues to remind me of Sri KVN, as i listen to his Saveri and Hameer Kalyani, in the GlobalFest youtube videos linked above.

(As if addressing the many wandering around in front of the camera constantly...his Saveri song asks, oh mind, what are you senselessly going after?!!! :tmi: )

And I wonder about (and take issue with) the 'non-slippery American-English' part - makes me wonder if there is a 'slippery' version!! :namaste:

Ravi: I liked his music before, now I like him!

I like that! Need I say? We in North America are very proud of him. After Sandeep, Ramakrishnan Murthy!
Good to know they get together to jam.

Yes,and respectful praNAms to his parents and grandparents :)

I think Rajesh means by slippery version vazha vazhA kozha kozhA. Some ameri(Zhi)cans pronouncing their 'r's thus, and not 'R'olling it like the scots and some of the bhArathvAsis.

A few years ago, when Sowmya presented a lovely program with the youngsters in the Gayana Samaja in Bengaluru, after the concert I happened to be talking with Vidya Kalyanaraman and heard Bharath Sundar and Ramakrishnan murthy chatting. 'nalla' tamizh accent, I thought, for an 'american' kid!

Arasi: That is probably what the writer meant by that non-standard characterization 'non-slippery' ;) but I heard his English in one of his lec-dem, I could not tell he grew up in the U.S.A.

Sri.Ramakrishnan Murthy's music reminds one of the rendering of the great Sri.KVN.

Has he learnt from Sri.KVN also?

From the information available in the internet, he is a deciple of Sri.Delhi P Sundararajan.

May someone elaborate more on his style of rendering.

Sir, RKM has learnt from several gurus but none from KVN school. 1.Mrs Padma Kutty irvine, CA 2. Delhi P Sundararajan 3. Vairamangalam Lakshminarayan 4. Chinglepet Ranganathan 5. R K Shriramkumar.

As you will find from several discussions in rasikas.org, many agree that his music resembles KVN's. I myself wrote at length on this 3 years ago.

The talented young NRI who opted for the Music career has rich Manodharma and strikes balance between the Rasikas and the Musicians on stage.
Very pleasant mannerisms on stage endears him to all.

Sorry folks, I found the writing quite bad. So many banalities!

Some examples:
Ramakrishnan Murthy has always been considered a good bean. There was further evidence in his concert for Kartik Fine Arts that the brew promises to be exciting too. His overall game plan was good. A facile voice and focus on aesthetics led his march to what would easily qualify as an above par concert.
Challenging genre of pallavis is a self-test most youngsters are subjecting themselves to — Ramakrishnan Murthy will also need to climb that peak sometimes.
It will take a few experiments for Ramakrishnan Murthy to strike a good balance between aesthetics and exhibition of expertise, neither of which is dispensable.
Felicitous? Or facile?

But this pretentious writing style has become the norm in newspapers such as the Hindu these days.
Usually, I consign these to the groan-worthy pile and promptly forget about them....

Nice writeup of RK Murthy , with a center page spread of photo in Dec 28 2018 edition of The Hindu. The Hindu writeups are very very important that too giving more space for words and pictures. This person Lakshmi Anand last week gave vijaysiva and this week RKM, she has researched well.

Concert review writeups were max is say years 2006 to 2012 timeframe . Those days for sure when an artist had a bit So So review immediately the system works and there was a aha oho review published again. Some of you may recollect the three fourth of paper size with atleat two days of exclusive concert reviews . Nowadays reviews in The Hindu have considerably gone down in count. The HINDU reaches still 2 million plus rasikas.

This year The Hindu has given a concert review and also this lovely biographical write up of TKM. This vidwan has to be aurally heard .

I have been following his growth from the early days in Chennai and what strikes me most is that his vidwat was always ahead of his performance technique.
