Thanks a lot :) :) I have heard from some one that MS sang Rama Neepai tanaku ! not sure if any recording is present or not.

I hope AIR/DD comes out with the audio/video releases than keeping the stuff with them. Not sure how to reach out to DD/AIR folks.

I too have the complete list but haphazard. Respected Forum members like ceinu and p.Bala ,
can easily get the contact information for AIR Chennai Director. and can probably approach through Sri.Venkaiya Naidu , our Vice President ( very well known to ceinu, ) _ to arrange for releasing the AIR recordings of Smt.MS either in public domain or as commercial CDs. Let us try.

Dr.Pasupathy,
Evidently, you missed my point. Though it is said that many of Purandaradasa krithis were set to music later by many of his disciples and admirers, it is rather standard practice to sing the kritis in the most widely accepted ragam by tradition. Sometimes, two ragams are much too close to each other that the name of the ragam is given differently. I was wondering if the difference between Kedaram and Revathi was all that slioght( not likely).
...BYE.

CRama-> Not so simple. I am searching for the Ragam Revathi version sung by any leading vocalist. Which ragam is in your collection? Revathi?
Here is an authentic and early version by Smt.MS upload by Srinivasan.
Ragam Kedaram.
https://youtu.be/s2gf28MjkYI
---------------------------------------
I would have appreciated if the music composer who set the song in Revathi had been given, or some tube version in Revathi ragam. . A really illuminating note would have mentioned the janaka ragam of Kedaram and if Rvathi version is remotely atleast related to Kedaram version. ( if at all)

To add to the confusion, here is another upload by Shankar Rajasekaran ( same krithi? Nadanamakriya? )

Here is the krithi in Kedaram sung by Smt.MLV.

Here is another..also in Kedaram.
The importance and ease of Bhakti is beautifully presented by Sri Purandaradasaru in this composition. Dasaru describes how the seed of Bhakti has grown to a fruit by several devotees of the Lord Narayana. Composer- Sri Purandara dasa Ragam-Kedaram, Talam-Adi Vocal by Rajaram K.R

I have never heard the song in Revathy by any musician. Perhaps some Kannada singer would have sung in Revathy. That is why it was indicated. Such instances are not rare in the case of Dasar padas etc.

Left to me, after hearing the song in Kedaram by MSS, I dont want to hear in any other ragam.

Sangeeta Gnanamu in Dhanyasi

Some fantastic pictures on the MS Tribute FB Page : https://www.facebook.com/tributetomssub ... tn-str=k*F

Quoting yet another interesting tidbit : "...Learning to play the mridangam from brother Saktivel instilled in MS a love of rhythm. But no one knew how much she knew about mridangam playing until an emergency occurred in Delhi when the mridangist who was to play for Anandhi and Radha 's bharatanatyam recital failed to turn up. A local mridangist was found and MS spent the morning teaching him to play the jatis for the varnam. Deepa Natarajan, grandson of TKC Mudaliar who accompanied the troupe was an eyewitness to MS actually demonstrating by playing on the mridangam, and reciting the jatis... "

Sorry. Did not notice the post.

But I do see that Sri Pasupathy has since clarified.

"Deepa" Natarajan (the grandson of "Rasikamani" TKC) and his family stay in Tenkasi and both our families still keep in touch.

One of the last conversations my mother had with me a few days before she passed away was to remind me "not to forget " to send the marriage invitation of my daughter S Aishwarya to "Deepa" Natarajan !

Yep. Even if a concert is uploaded there is a 99% chance that it is the same. AIR never broadcasts a new one from the set they have.

DD does not even release any CD/DVD. Two sets released long back and they advertise the same in youtube.

Excellent Tamil Isai 1966 concert! Heard the concert again after a really long break and took two days to finish it. MS must have had a hard time controlling the flow in her voice during the concert. Some rare renderings!

Respected Sirs,
Thank you for the information that there were *two* concerts in Sri Lanka during this period. I sure most collectors will know that at least one of them has been released by "Swathi's Sanskriti" (catalogue number SA 751), as a 3 CD set, under the title "The Magic of MS". The venue and date are given as "Sri Ramakrishna Mission, Jaffna, Ceylon 1958". The accompanists are as listed above in the thread (R. K. Venkatarama Shastri - Violin, V. Nagarajan - Mridanga, Umayalpuram Kodhandarama Iyer - Ghatam). The concert begins with Era Naapai, Rama Nannu Brovara etc, and the RTP is in Shanmukhapriya.

Sincerely,
S. K. Bhaskar

The pdf mentions the ragam of the Kannada song ( yadhuvamsa thilakane ) as Kamaaj.
I dont think, it is correct. Any helpful suggestion?
A few months back, Sri.P.Bala questioned my line that there were 11 songs in 11 languages and one among the songs was by Guru Nanak in Punjabi. Just settling the issue here. No offence meant.

Hi All,

Got to know from a friend that the videos of MS singing Sri Mahaganapati in Gowla and Arunachalanatham in Saranga were telecast by DD Podhigai in their MS Centenary special program, 'Kurai Ondrum Illai'. Did one watch them or record them?

It would of great help if some one shares them. I could not really sleep well with the excitement that the videos were broadcast. I searched DD Podhigai's official website and youtube channel. They judiciously uploaded the program videos but most of them were blocked by saregama owing to copyright issues.

Not sure what to do. Can someone help please.

Regards,
Aditya.

Thanks Cienu Sir.

Few observations after an extensive search for this program in youtube, vimeo and DD Podhigai channels.

DD Podhigai - https://www.ddpodhigai.org.in/index.php ... ideo1.html

DD Podhigai Youtube channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC5-_zk ... drum+illai

No playlist is available. But when we search, not all are shown but only few episodes are shown in search.

DD Podhigal Vimeo channel - https://vimeo.com/search?q=kurai+ondrum+illai

No playlist is available. But when we search, the search results take 4 pages (10-12 per page), but when we change the page to 2,3,4 - the episodes from page 1 are only shown.

Using the above as source, I am not sure which episodes have the renditions of Gowla and Saranga. I could not sleep at all after I go to know that these were broadcasted that I searched from 11/12 to 3/4 in all the above channels.

DD Podhigal did not upload all the 52+ episodes to any of the above channels.

The ones that are blocked by saregama(you can click in DD Podhigai's Video Gallery, episode #61, #59 and few others, in DD Podhigai's page only, we see the notification that the content is blocked by saregama) are not available in Youtube at all.

Not sure what to do sir.

Doordarshan and AIR have so many video and audio recordings of MS that they can release commercially. So many people will buy them.

AIR Archive PDFs show that she sang Mariveregati, Samkari Sankuru and other songs which we are not MS regulars.

And these videos that Doordarshan has.

We all the fans of MS would appreciate your help in getting these sourced :-)

would like to share these two uploads by Sri.BalaGirish of MS songs from very early age
( she was born in 1916) and one of these 78 rpm records is given in 1928. ( she would have been just 12 at that time!). and the other in early 1930 ( just after 15th year).

Dear Cienu Sir / rasikas members...

I happened to listen a tamil padam by Smt. MSS and Smt. RV on youtube (probably couple of years back) in gaulipantu ragam. The sahityam is something like "Vijaya Dwarakanathanai" ... Is there any recording of this padam that you can share?

Sri Suki Sivam on MS:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rH4cgqnmaIY

Few highlights:

1. She did not answer her critics. She invalidated them by her silence and actions.
2. NT Ramarao then chief minister of Andhra , when countless people were waiting, invited in the kalki-family magazine interviewers calling them as MS Amma vITTU patrika people.
3. MGR offered to buy them a house from government funds , but Sri Sadasivam refused.
4. Suki Sivam was renamed Sadasivam in living honor to Sri Sadasivam by his father, who was helped with a transfer out of a a tough situation in Tiruchi AIR to Madras AIR!
