https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0oYRf1LI-8

Elaborate kalpanaswaras and patterns, unrestrained rAga Alapana, fair bit of kanakku, naDa bhEdams, (including one for the multiple kAlams) in the pallavi, a voice that never seems to know what fatigue is. There is another recording (a Thodi RTP that was put up here where the link is now lost) where the brighas would have made TNR proud.
The first set of songs are commercially available from charsur - 1960 Music Academy.

I do not think, Tamilnadu has really honoured Smt.MS. Is it possible to request Theosophical society, Adyar for a gift of about 300' -300' square land inside the Adyar premises and build a very simple exhibition of all things connected with Smt.MS? The small house will be surrounded by trees and will have a fountain. and lot of flower plants.

Why restrict to Smt.MS.?.
Such a Facility can exhibit all the eminent artists.

She is unique. In fact the Music Academy also can be named as M.S.Subbulakshmi Music Academy. The building was raised by her concert contributions.

When FB helps you strike gold : https://www.facebook.com/Kalki.Kannan1/ ... 9932260115
This page has so many anecdotes. Here's one.

PATTI and DAD
Patti(Divine MS Subbulakshmi) had a warm, deep relationship, filled with mutual respect, with dad (Kalki Kannan).
In my memory, I have always seen dad paying a lot of attention to patti's every move/utterance/expression. While she was diplomatic and guarded with her views, she subtlety conveyed her inner thoughts with enormous force, to those very close to her. Having spent his lifetime with tha tha and patti, dad had this unique ability to say less but put through his views with clarity, to them.
This is an incident that dad shared, in happier times, when he was with us, in his mortal form. Sometime in the early '60s, dad had to be in Madras for a meeting. Travel those days, was predominantly by train. Having finished his work, he was to travel back to Bombay (Mumbai, today), with tha tha and patti. Patti was coming over to Bombay for a concert. Her troupe comprised of tha tha, Radha aunty, Visalam (who took care of patti's every interest), tha tha's assistant, a cook, accompanying artists (three at a minimum) and a couple of tha tha's friends. A first class 'bogie' was a standard booking. The Madras mail and the Madras-Bombay express were the popular trains, those days. Typically the journey would take 34 to 36 hours! 'Coal engines" would haul the train and air-conditioned compartments were virtually unheard of. The journey would be arduous, across small towns, rural heartland, over mountains, covering at-least four states (Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra and Maharashtra), culminating at a very crowded 'VT' station in Bombay. Having been exposed to the harsh weather all along and more importantly, to the smoke/coal dust spewed by the engine, the passengers would experience a subtle change in 'skin tone', mostly to a darker shade of grey, at the culmination of the journey! So naturally, freshening up, on arrival ( a 'deep scrub' bath in warm water), was a standard practice. This was followed by intake of steaming hot 'degree coffee' and light meals (referred to as 'palaharam'), prepared by mom (Lakshmi Kannan). Other than the accompanying artists, who would be located in 'hotels', the rest of the 'guests' would find place in Meena Sadan (a two bed room apartment), with atleast 5 additional, permanent occupants!
On this particular journey, dad joined the troupe from Madras. They boarded the Madras-Bombay express at the Central station. The train, those days, would leave at around 09.30 am. Having settled in their places, patti got into a lengthy chat with dad, wanting to know/share all that had happened around. A few minutes into their conversation, dad noticed an element of 'distraction' in patti. He sought to understand her discomfort and patti responded" the rhythm of the train is giving me a feeling of discomfort. I feel, it is not very stable". While this could not be fully comprehended by all around, dad pondered as to what could be the issue. Time passed and the train was heading towards Arakonam junction, a major station after Madras Central. Patti once again shared her discomfort with dad. Knowing her well, dad went across to the train conductor and sought to understand if all was well with the coach. Completely taken aback by this observation, he enquired as to how dad could sense the subtle abberation in the rhythm of the coach! Dad shared patti's observation, at which, the conductor came over to patti and prostrated! "Amma, I will be retiring next month from the railways. In all my years, I have not come across anyone who could, based on the rhythmic sound of the compartment, sense a subtle flaw! You are indeed right. The coach has an issue with the suspension and is to be changed at Arakonam."
All the years of dedicated absorption of music, a complete surrender to the Supreme Being, honesty and integrity in every aspect of life, manifested in whatever patti did or conveyed. While life around her was as normal as can be, her expressions or the lack of the same(on occasions), her subtle moves, were always picked and acted upon by all those ,around her, who could comprehend the same.
The spirit of patti, dad, mom, tha tha, Radha aunty and all those who have made our growing years, memorable, continues to provide us a lot of joy and nostalgia!

If the song forms part of an earlier concert, Sri.Varsha_ji, can locate the tape and rip it and place it in tube. It is too great asong to be lost.

Is there any Kedaram rendition of MS available?

Also, AIR has released list of songs rendered by artistes and the list has these songs available. Are they available with any one. If yes, please share

Mariveregati in Anandabhairavi
Sangeeta Gnanamu in Dhanyasi
Sankari Samkuru in Saveri
RTP in Khamboji
Karuna Samudra in Devagandhari

http://allindiaradio.gov.in/Oppurtuniti ... 0Final.pdf

I am not sure how can we request AIR to release them as commercial recordings at least.

Perhaps, cienu sir can guide us in this.

I too have the complete list but haphazard. Respected Forum members like ceinu and p.Bala ,
can easily get the contact information for AIR Chennai Director. and can probably approach through Sri.Venkaiya Naidu , our Vice President ( very well known to ceinu, ) _ to arrange for releasing the AIR recordings of Smt.MS either in public domain or as commercial CDs. Let us try.

Dr.Pasupathy,
Evidently, you missed my point. Though it is said that many of Purandaradasa krithis were set to music later by many of his disciples and admirers, it is rather standard practice to sing the kritis in the most widely accepted ragam by tradition. Sometimes, two ragams are much too close to each other that the name of the ragam is given differently. I was wondering if the difference between Kedaram and Revathi was all that slioght( not likely).
...BYE.

CRama-> Not so simple. I am searching for the Ragam Revathi version sung by any leading vocalist. Which ragam is in your collection? Revathi?
Here is an authentic and early version by Smt.MS upload by Srinivasan.
Ragam Kedaram.
https://youtu.be/s2gf28MjkYI
---------------------------------------
I would have appreciated if the music composer who set the song in Revathi had been given, or some tube version in Revathi ragam. . A really illuminating note would have mentioned the janaka ragam of Kedaram and if Rvathi version is remotely atleast related to Kedaram version. ( if at all)

To add to the confusion, here is another upload by Shankar Rajasekaran ( same krithi? Nadanamakriya? )

Here is the krithi in Kedaram sung by Smt.MLV.

Here is another..also in Kedaram.
The importance and ease of Bhakti is beautifully presented by Sri Purandaradasaru in this composition. Dasaru describes how the seed of Bhakti has grown to a fruit by several devotees of the Lord Narayana. Composer- Sri Purandara dasa Ragam-Kedaram, Talam-Adi Vocal by Rajaram K.R

I have never heard the song in Revathy by any musician. Perhaps some Kannada singer would have sung in Revathy. That is why it was indicated. Such instances are not rare in the case of Dasar padas etc.

Left to me, after hearing the song in Kedaram by MSS, I dont want to hear in any other ragam.

Perhaps, cienu sir can guide us in this.

Some fantastic pictures on the MS Tribute FB Page : https://www.facebook.com/tributetomssub ... tn-str=k*F

Quoting yet another interesting tidbit : "...Learning to play the mridangam from brother Saktivel instilled in MS a love of rhythm. But no one knew how much she knew about mridangam playing until an emergency occurred in Delhi when the mridangist who was to play for Anandhi and Radha 's bharatanatyam recital failed to turn up. A local mridangist was found and MS spent the morning teaching him to play the jatis for the varnam. Deepa Natarajan, grandson of TKC Mudaliar who accompanied the troupe was an eyewitness to MS actually demonstrating by playing on the mridangam, and reciting the jatis... "

The gender is correct! He is தீப.நடராஜன் . His father , தெ.சி. தீத்தரரப்பன் , the son of TKC , used the penmame ' தீபன்’ more often .
( A poem of ’ Dheepan' is in my blog ]

Sorry. Did not notice the post.

But I do see that Sri Pasupathy has since clarified.

"Deepa" Natarajan (the grandson of "Rasikamani" TKC) and his family stay in Tenkasi and both our families still keep in touch.

One of the last conversations my mother had with me a few days before she passed away was to remind me "not to forget " to send the marriage invitation of my daughter S Aishwarya to "Deepa" Natarajan !
