What a kapAli from DKJ!
Yes, T.Rukmini looks beautiful (still does) and as you say, she wears matching december kanakAmbaram (purply blue which is unrelated to the kanakAmbaram family, different in color too). Any flowers which had no fragrance were classified kanakAmbaram in the days when jasmines and other fragrant flowers were normally worn.
Is it J. Vaidyanathan who plays the tambura for his father?
I had forgotten DKJ's gestures. Now when I see them, I am reminded of Vijay Siva's!
To see Balachandar in the audience is a bonus...

What a wonderful clip! Yes, arasi, it is Sri Vaidyanathan on the tambura. Sri UKS sits ramrod straight at the mrudangam... his playing looks as elegant as it sounds...

Another excellent Kapali is featured on a Charsur release of a 1990 concert - DKJ begins with a few words on DKP, which makes this track rather special.

srkris,
While this looks like the 'golden sky' flower, the green stems make me wonder. Possible that this belongs to the crossandra family too.

Whatever, thats the original kanakambara flower. I am not quite well up on the english names for flora in general.

crossandra is correct.. there is even a green variety that the kannaDiga-s have dubbed 'pacchambari'
december pU or december kanakambaram is Barleria cristata

a google search will reveal pictures of both kanakAmbara and barleria.. i don't know how to paste pictures here..

Can somebody please upload(or send links to) DKJ's rendition of 'bhajarE rE chitta'(kalyAni,mc,MD)? I've been hunting for this rendition but it is unavailable almost everywhere! I very well know that DKJ has sung this composition since I heard him sing it in one of his lec-dems. Please upload, members, if you have the rendition(if it is non-commercial)

Varsha: thank you. That made my day.
Is this with MSG & UKS at SKGS? I was at this concert (circa late 1970s, or a similar one) and I have been looking for a recording of this "SriValli devasenapate" ever since!

Superb photo of DKJ and T. Brinda.

I have heard only some reports about the Naina Pillai centennial celebrations @ Kanchipuram. The musicians also sang at Kanchi Sankara Mutt and T. Brinda sang Seethavara Sangeetha (Devagandhari) and DKJ also joined her in singing that krithi.

Varsha Ji,

Thanks so much for this treat over the last few days. Each and every concert is absolute GOLD having the Topmost accompanists, at their peak, which has always been one of the most endearing aspects of a DKJ concert. The music of DKP/DKJ--- Phew, it doesnt come any better!!

Varshaji, Thanks a lot for your magnanimity. I would like to inform one correction. The concert indicated as DKJ-LGJ_PMI-Bombay is actually by DKP- not DKJ.

I had pondered over this question.Thought it was a magnificent sample
If it indeed was DKP , what masculine power !!
If it indeed was DKJ , what feminine grace and timbre of voice !!
Thanks
It has been four weeks of non stop DKJ for me.

In the erode concert link (second one )
Can some one identify the co singer ?
He gets to take the lead in singing swaras followed by dkj and then by violin
He even sings the shanmukhapriya krithi by himself - One can hear grunts of appreciation
A glorious mean of TKR , SR and TMT.Wonder who is this singer ?
Kalidas's accompanying is delightful

Elsewhere TRukmini has been a delight

Varsha, Absolutely correct, Can not be expressed better. IN fact, while hearing the concert in many places I again got doubt- DKP or DKJ. Eventhough the voice is of DKP, many vibrant pidis which we can associate only with DKJ and not found in other concerts of DKP can be seen here. And DKJ is not accompanying- because no swarams or neravals by him. One more uniqueness in this concert- Sree Krishnam bhaja manasa- Not normally heard in DKP concerts. Thanks again.

The other concert, I will hear and get back to you.

It's indeed DKJ .The recording speed is slightly faster than normal, which has made DKJ's voice sound feminish.
DKJ's Pidi's are discernible as well.

It is clearly DKJ; speed is high as Purist has pointed out that makes it seem otherwise.

Also consider the possibility ofLalgudi Jayaraman having played violin for DKP - would be zero!!
Don't believe it has happened for DKP or other women.
