SHyama , a lovely raga . It gives me tears when I hear say my perennial favourite Semmangudi say singing varuvraro or Smarahari Paadaravindam.
Here Is Abilash Giri Prasad, the fourth generation sishya , SHyama blessing thru his grand paramaguru SSI, paramaguru PSN , guru ASMurali .

To have such a great voice strength in low or middle octaves and to have your voice heard with a mrudangam, ghatam and kanjira.
This is a 2012 Swathi Sangeethotsavam 2012. I wanted to hear abilash in 2017 Dec at his pozhichalur sabha concert , but I could not go.

Here is his shyamA- 6 years before with such voice strength and real great carnatic curves of shyamA in ST gem krithi samarahari.

Check the contrast of speed with swaras in paramapurusha in vasantha. I am comparing swaras here with atleast one of my perennnial favourite of today , it is just pouring manodharma in vasantha swaras

I only pray that this wonderful abilash gets noticed more and not get diffused or sidelined with the so called phrase "neraya pEr nallA padrA ippO(As of today There are just too many people singing )" .

What a joy to hear kalpanaswaras in bahudari. Certainly 2 trajectories are very much there in this swaras - a dash of sanjay and a dash of suryaprakash , atleast to me. More than those pockets of other musician touchpoints ,there is so much of onspot originality that Abilash brings with such rhythmic control with layam which is all his own .

After all many many years back when for the first time I went to this pozhichalur sabha , the founder Shri Krishnamoorthy then said when I asked casually what was the first concert of your sabha . He said then the first concert in our sabha was by Tiruvidaimarudhur Rajagopalan Subramanyam . What else can we expect in that sabha that too when the performing lad himself is from the land of pozhichalur.

Just the KALPANA swaras of bahudari , TRS mama's manaseega guru GNB must be in tears when hearing from the clouds of his own krithi, excerpts from the MOST MUSICALLY HAPPPENING SABHA - Trimurthy Sangeetha Sabha.

Nice writeup on Abilash Giriprasad that was published in The Hindu dated Sept 06,2019.

Many many years back as a kid when he participated in Ramji isai mazhalai I did not hear the TV at all .My mom once said hear this kid singing and in that year of that competition I think bharath sundar won and this young abilash got some special prize or something .I was thinking then these kids may not make it intense in classicism . But few years later looking/hearing him, brinda M, BharathSUndar , Sriranjani , deekshita, anahita etc I understood that they all came only to get bit more marketing(as the medium is TV) and their parents and Isai mazhalai ramji indeed pushed them for more exposure . I also learnt that their classical pursuit is not diluted Even a bit. Their senior Abhishek Raghuram participated even in few tv shows . Atleast the lesson that I learnt is we should not dismiss prematurely the youngsters who come in TV Shows .

Bit later the training away from ISai mazhalai Ramji to full time A S Murali , with he picking up mrudangam and/or kanjira, have all helped .More than anything i am seeing this young semmangudi baani product connecting very easily to MDR, GNB,MMI , KVN,Ramnad Krishnan etc and atleast 3 extremely contemporary artists (His Guru AS Murali, Suryaprakash and Sanjay)whom he follows quite naturally . He is at ease with his layam finesse and I particularly like him for his longer neraval and swaras.Swaras are significantly kalpana. THis pozhichalur star performs with zeal and passion, hopefully he also learns to market himself with an ecosystem that is very closed and favours a small arc of their own clan. He also has to musically learn more , and also introspect at times his voice quality issues . He certainly has the potential to reach the carnatic mars status of musicians like a "MaduraiMani-Semmangudi -GNB " .

I would have been happier if he ended the above interview with the line “There’s a need to motivate young rasikas to hear music leisurely,” instead of he saying “There’s a need to motivate young artistes to pursue music professionally,” I hope with this feedback he will end better in his next The HIndu interview.

Sincere interview that I browsed in peppers tv of Abilash Giriprasad. Kudos to him that too to hear that his amma helped in taking 3 tiffin boxes for him to travel all the way from Pozhichalur to Mylapore and reach home back at 11 pm for a class with his guru in mylapore . Greater Exposure at a young age always does wonder. Abilash genuinely thanks his parents , sister and his extended family which was lovely.

Abilash Giriprasad

As the whole nation celebrates the return of Lord Ram at his birth place, there is also a humble musical offering in the form of a melodious bhajan in Ragam Desh, sung by Abilash Giriprasad along with the students of his 'Abilash's International Carnatic Academy'. The composition looks he has learnt when he was a kid and polished and sung with his students. These bhajans will bring in more ethos and can be a good starters for the uninitiated CM rasikas.
