Srkris,
Once again there has been an error from your end in identifying the artists in the photograph in this thread ! The violin Vidwan is not Chowdiah but very clearly a young Kandadevi Alagiriswamy (disciple of Chowdiah).
If you need to know how Chowdiah looked while playing opposite PMI , please follow the link below. It shows Ariyakudi being accompanied by Chowdiah and PMI.(As a bonus you will get to read a wondeful interview with KVN ! )

A kind request to the moderators who hopefully will make the necessary corrections

During the years I was a schoolgirl in Delhi, Pudukode Krishnamurthy taught me. I would return from school and find him impatiently waiting for me. Just seeing his bicycle parked in front, I used to start sulking because I was then too young to be enthused by music lessons. He and B.V.Lakshmanan had both moved to Delhi at that time, in search of a living.
I have my old music notebook, over 50 years old now, in which he wrote down the notation for the kritis he taught me - Sukhi Evaro (Kanada), Nadasudharasam (Arabhi), Neepadamule gatiyani (Bhairavi - some years later, when I joined the Central College of Karnatic music as it was then known, in Chennai, Musiri taught our class the same kriti again), Enthabhagyamu (Saranga), Evarura ninnu vina (Mohanam, which I subsequently included in my commercial cassette recorded at Mumbai) Daridapuleka (Saveri)Rama ninne (Huseni), Amma ravamma (Kalyani, which I sang at my first Radio Week concert at Chennai’s Srinivasa Sastri Hall, with an invited audience - I was 15, my accompanists were M.Chandrasekharan on the violin and E.Sivakumar (DKP’s son) on the mridangam - all three of us were teenagers), Ninnu vina mari galada (Ritigoula, thisra nadai) Kanada varnam (Nera nammiti, Ata talam) Sakhi praana (Javali) etc. My first lesson under him was on 1 September 1949 (as per the date on the book’s margin) and the first kriti he taught me was Darini telusu konti (Suddha saveri) I notice from my notebook that he would write down not just the notation but also the arohanam-avarohanam and the melakarta from which the ragam was derived
I remember around 1950 my father brought home a "wire recorder"

Welocme Sakunthala Narasimhan-Have heard your Guru-I think I may have a cassette of him in AIR when my brother M.S.Sekhar(mridangam) played for him years back.
He was a fine artiste and I remember my father the late K.S.Mahadevan (Music critic--Indian Express) reviewing him favorably.
Yes,the teachers of yore treated Teaching as Sadhana not a mere means of livelihood despite the fact that teaching has adverse effects on one' s voice(different sruthis of students) and thereby affects their performance career.

This is a cropped picture,MDR should be there probably next to Pudukode sir, they were very good friends. Ludwig cropped it probably to highlight his Guru Sri.Ramachandra Shastry.
Going through the photograph, most of those great performers and teachers are no more.
Smt Rajeswari Padmanabhan was a good performer, equally good singer, excellent teacher
Smt Kamalarani was in charge of nattuvangam/vocal for many years for Kalakshetra dance dramas
Smt Krishnaveni,an excellent performer, heroine for most of Kalakshetra productions, equally good teacher
Smt Balasaraswathi was a tough music teacher for the beginners.
Smt Anandi is the d/o Kalki Krishnamurthi. It was a delight to listen to her tamil.
Haripriya was the librarian, she was a good the tamil teacher too.

Re: Pudukode Krishnamoorthy
Heard a wonderful concert of Puducode Krishnamurthy with VVS and Vellore Ramabhadran held in 1979 in Trivandrum. I am giving below the link in Sangeethapriya.
https://www.sangeethamshare.org/manjuna ... ocal-1979/
The concert begins with Begada varnam followed by Saketanagaranatha. A lengthy concert, has got three songs rendered elaborately with ragam, neraval and swaram- Saveri (Darithapule), Kalyani (Talli ninnu nera) and a spell binding Ramanee samana. There are many captivating sangatis in the pallavi which one should never miss. The accompanists are superb. Also has a leisurely Smarahari padaravindam in Sama (Swati Tirunal) and his own composition in Hamsanadam on Murugan.
