I am sure coolkarni who shares his collections with raju will try to complement. But if there are any overlap we should not mind :D

99.999 % of the somus that i have are from raju.
having said that, uploads here were not intended as a bulk transfer
like what happens on a Xdrive.
Since I work on measly quotas of 30-60 mbs of upload a day.
So one will not see uploads of full concerts here, except in the case of Gs mani Concert, which incidentally ran for 25 sets of downloads until the rapidshares backbone snapped.

Hence my contributions will be more in the nature of responses to prompts by various members.
so while the intention is to meet the demand of "all of somu"as cml puts it,the process is slow.
another point to be considered is that I have not followed the X drive downloads and details since I have a regular exchange with Raju through Cds.So very difficult to inform you about overlaps.
Though i will keep giving info about the concert details like Devakottai 63 or Nagpur 76, which ,may be of help.

My own program would be to cover
1.his RTPs-suruti, kadaram(chandrakauns)etc
2.all the well recorded -full length concerts
3.all the various rare kritis
4.the few concerts which I have picked up here and added to rajus stock-.i will let you know at the appropriate occasions.
poongavur.
you could also mail me a list of concerts that you have with you from rajus drive.i can then keep adding footnotes whenever i upload.
my email id is inmech@gmail.com or inmech@eth.net

HOW I WISH SOMEONE STARTS A THREAD LIKE THIS FOR ALATHOOR.MY COLLECTIONS ARE SO MISERABLE FOR THESE ARTISTS !)

Thanks coolkarni, for the clarification. I have no problem with overlaps. I will prepare a list of what I downloaded from raju's x-drive and email you (on Monday).

In anycase, I think the items you mention in your list seem very good to me.

The shanmukhapriya piece has only the raga alapana (vocal & violin). Is the rest of it available and could you upload? Thanks.

coolkarni

Post by coolkarni »

yes.there is a kriti with that-gangeyam.will upload.

this was meant just to be a starter- i wanted it to be a great alapana at one extreme and his well known thukkadas at the other.that would describe his range so well.

forgot to add in my list
.. the myriad shades of todi he brings out in kritis and rtps.

coolkarni,
Lalgudi's Durga is indeed very good. But the best Durga I have heard in CM is a live concert recording of GNB, with MSG on the violin. GNB's short AlApanam captures the very essence of Durga, while MSG's reply on the violin is superb. This is followed by Purandara dAsa's Dharma shravaNavidEtake.

coolkarni

pathanjali, you are absolutely right about the GNB rendering.

As i busy myself with organising the best recorded concerts of somu,
here is something which gives an idea of what to look forward to.

I have been lucky in getting to know an old gentleman who was a secretary at the Music sabha at nagpur for three decades.
He was kind enough to give me some vintage concerts of all the artists who performed there.
Somus Nagpur 1979 concert is a very famous concert , but this time i was fortunate to get another one by somu in the company of lalgudi and sivraman.
a magnificent concert with somu in a very pensive mood.
I will put it up after the full conversion and processing , but in the meanwhile I thought you should all hear a very very sweet madhulika -krithi sundareswara-
lalgudi and sivraman -they add such magic to the proceedings.
