Well deserved - in the past it has been one of the landmarks signifying the arrival of an upcoming artiste and GV is certainly at that stage.

IIRC, the title is 'isaippEroLI'. Have to confirm it.
whether it is oli or 'oLi' the honour is the same.
It is a sound honour as well as a bright honour.:)

Punarvasu,
The title is 'iSaip pEroLi'.
All the above was a play of words. The spring cuckoo started it...

Once again, congratulations to fellow member Gayathri...

Yes congratulations to Gayathri. Her brilliant voice, her ability to render both extremely fast and slow songs with equal felicity, her constant effort to add to her repertiore--all signs of a "very good" musician who should hopefully transcend to the" great" level in the future if she continues to work like this. Only she should think of adding certain ragas like dharmavathi, amritavarshini, abheri (just a few as samples have been named here) into her fold which will make her a more complete singer! Well done GV. May this be the harbinger of many many more presitigious awards and titles!

Very nice Q&A from GV.I never knew that she underwent few years of musical sabbattical in madurai(I was only thinking her break was more with becoming a mother of two and all the years she was only at madras). I am sure madurai innings will be a great addition just like shri TNs and the supernova shri madurai mani , who had brief stay at madurai.

Mods,
Can you rename the title just to Gayathri Vekataraghavan

Not to be overtly boastful.my late father K.S.Mahadevan was also instrumental in promoting the artist -she was in Tirunelveli as her husband was an Opthalmologist--she was gracious enough to acknowledge this before several vidwans and dignitaries on the day my father died exactly 6 year ago(Sept 4,2006).

THis should not detract from the fact that since she moved to Chennai she has worked tremendously hard to be where she is today.
