Accompanied by violin - R.kailAsam (sishya of Prof TNK) and yugarAjan - mridangam(disciple of CSM)
Having not known anything about the sisters , just went to hear them for the first time. Incidentally the entire team is new to me . Singing together as sisters or brothers has its own perils, I guess at most times their synchronization becomes a priority , with ultimately the building block of CM "gamakams" becoming a casualty . Perhaps synchronization and gamakams are inversely proportional when the dias is shared by brothers or sisters .
The sisters had lot of manOdharmam exhibited particularly in their 15 minutes of swara delivery of hamsadhwani, a rare manajudai puTTi in AbhOgi (having heard only in a hmv casette of Smt Ms Subhalakshmi)was rendered by them quite well . Their high pitch completely butchered the shankarAbharanam krithi. The kalyAni was quite good in swaras . But their alApanai in general (both kalyAni and AbhOgi) was dull and uninspiring.
I was particularly impressed with mridangist Shri yugarAjan who says he is playing for last 55 years ,he had a very good left-right balance , the violinist played very well considering there was quite a lot of shruthi lapse by the main artists . The tukkadas were just good .The biggest take away in the concert was the sisters coming up with an excellent choice of krithis.
Overall a below average concert. There were only 15 in the audience, that dropped to just 8 after tani. Incidentally even for the best artists the crowd is never more than 40 in this sabha . It is just running because of persistent patronage by Shri arusuvai natarAjan.

Rajesh,
Good to see that you are managing a few concerts amid all your maddening schedule.
Yes, manujuDai puTti isn't sung that much at all. Song 7 is innu daya bAradE.
kanDEn kanDEN in vasantA is so apt, considering the impact of the statement--and the rAgA is ideal in conveying the good news. bhAgESri? I don't know...

It certainly is an unusual interpretation, especially for those of us who have heard the Vasantha version, first. I did hear Bombay Jayashri sing the song in this raga, and although it did sound very nice melodically, I don't know if it is appropriate in conveying the actual meaning of the krithi.arasi wrote:bhAgESri?
