Suryaprakash - vocal
V. suresh babu - violin
Madipakkam suresh - mridangam
1. viruttam in begada followed by anu dinamu - begada - rupaka - RSI (swara @ kana kana ruchi)
2. manasuloni - varamu - adi - thyagaraja (neraval @ kanikaramu to)
3. pahi sri rama ramana - atana - misra chapu - ? (raga alapana)
4. kaa vaa vaa (started at anu pallavi - devadi devan) - varali - adi - papanasam sivan (swara @ ka va va)
5. maragatha valli - kambodhi - adi 2 kalai - muthuswami dikshitar (ragam, swara @ maragatha valli, short tani)
6. RTP shanmukha priya - kanda triputa 2 kalai - little finder eduppu
then pazhani malai velava ka va iru disayin isai ketka
ragamalika swara in kedaragowlai, darbari kanada, darbar, behag, sri, ?, nalina kanti, ?
7. slokam - vaidehi sahitam, rama baktha hanuman - jounpuri - suguna purushottaman
Pallavi was interesting, i couldn't understand all laya aspects, in ragamalika section, he alternated between carnatic and hindustani raga, and used pallavi words - then disayin isai ketka and vada disayin isai ketka - intelligently. In between tanam, suryaprakash asked for mridangam accompaniment with good effect.
kambodhi ragam was great to hear.
A nice concert, complete in all aspects.

For want to time, I just like to review this outstanding pallavi rendition by suryaprakAsh, even though the concert was overall excellent. The violinist Suresh KumAr was just good , his KAmbOdhi lacked weight though he made up well in the RTP.madipAkkam murali followed a very good sarvalaghu patterns and was very good.
SuryaprakAsh is one of the finest musicians where he is able to intersect with his rich ringing voice ,musical vidwat particularly in RTP and always connecting very well emotively with a rich artistic touch. The rAgam in shanmughapriya was for about 11 minutes very detailed and sung with his usual vigour. The violinist replied for about 4 minutes
RTP is usually at its best when they follow a little second round of ragam , then burst into tAnam.SuryaprakAsh did exactly that, continuing brilliantly in two tAnam burst, one a shorter cycle for 3 minutes and the second tAnam with full vocal expressions for another 4 minutes.
His pallavi was stunningly original and creative , it was a new one composed for this academy concert(though not sure if this was his debut) with the lines "then pazhaNi malai velavA kAvA iru thisaiyiN isai ketka". He sang the pallavi for 5 minutes with a round of shanmughapriya swaras .
THe brilliance was at its best starting from there on , he connected kedAragowlai with south , darbAri kAnadA with north ,the again traversing south with darbAr and then behAg with north. For all these 4 rAgas , he sang first the pallavi line in that respective rAga then went into swaras in that rAga (more like TRS style).Singing pallavi line and then swaras adds the right punch. Incidentally north signifies hindustani and the south signifies carnatic and the rAga had that alternate hm and cm flavour.
The pallavi line iru thiasiyiN changed to vada and then thisaiyiN was perfect. Then srirAgam , br sArangA ?? and nalinakAnthi swara downpour continued and he traversed beautifully all the way back in the semmangudi sytle reverse order with amazing precision and speed. The swara rAga mAliga was for about 15 minutes and was awesome. The rtp had both anuloma and pratiloma too , in effect a totally complete pallavi.
I just wished a little more better pakkavadhyam support for this great vidwan who has to be right there at the top 5 .
