What a tribute to the legend GNB…
The concert invoked the memory of the legend with exuberant rhythmic swings, lovely brigas and profusion of swarams that Smt. Bushany Kalyanaraman coded into much of her singing… yet brilliantly creative in her own right…
The concert started with an alluring saveri.
Following this Smt. Bushany presented GNB’s melting melody in saraswathi. In the alluring composition, ‘kailasa nadhena’, after a fleeting introduction of kambhoji with her caressing touches made it shimmer and the lyrical intensity came with a grace that was captivating…and then came shivashathi, the master’s creation in all glory…
Kalyani – The interpretation of Kalyani was majestic troding well-worn ground of melodic expression, gliding with finesse into expressive possibilities thro brigas and long karvais with subtle nuances going deep into mantrasthayi… next she elegantly spun out the composition, ‘enduko’ full of melody adding mystical dimension to the music…ended the piece with kalpanaswarams - the rhythmic phraseology beginning with the simple and culminating into layer of complex expression, juxtapositions of rhythm and melody with supple sensitivity enhanced by Sri. V.V.S.Murari’s and Sri. Bala shankar‘s fluid playing…it was a joy to hear her concert with such scrupulous musicianship and refinement.
Smt. Bushany concluded the concert with the serene ‘jaya jaya durgE’

Thanks for the review. Hope we get to hear more about the Cleveland concerts (not the competitions or SS)!
I wonder if GNB sung Kailasa Nadhena or Bagayanayya? I have heard TS Kalyanaraman sing the latter. Glad to note Bala from Sydney played well.

Dear Mohan, As per records maintained by Shri G N Balakrishnan (GNB's brother), GNB has sung both the songs and unfortunately we do not have any recordings. GNB has sung Kailasanathenay in Music Academy.

No offense to the poster or anyone in general, but I'm sure the artist rendered the words correctly, anyhow the starting words of the song is, "kavalaiyellAm kaLaindiDuvadun paramE..." One thing I love about GNB songs is that he has some very interesting pattern of ciTTaisvaras and this song's sounds just like a kOrvai.kedharam wrote: Saraswathi – kavalai ellAm kLaindhidUm padamE , GNB
