The concert was enthralling all the way, with this interesting songlist and a majestic start with the Kamboji Ata Tala Varnam and Jaya Jaya with Swarams at ‘Dasarathaatmaja Veea’. Rara Ma Yinti was beautifully rendered and was full of expression. The Nalinakanthi Alapana was marked with zest and had quick sancharas gliding beautifully over the Ragam’s prominent swara passage – Sa – Ga – Ri – Ma – Ga – Ri – Sa – Ni.

‘Nee Padame Gathi’ was followed by a sensitive and mellifluous rendition of Varali ragam and kriti ‘Kamakshi’ with Niraval and Swarams. Next came a rare composition from Dikshitar in Suddha Vasantha (Janya Ragam of Sankarabaranam) – Somasundaresvaram. The interlude before the main item was the fast paced ‘Innum Ethanai Kaalam’ in Vasantha, a kriti not often heard, with a quick set of Kalpana Swarams. A detailed Karaharapriya was followed by a soulful rendition of ‘Rama Nee’. The Neraval and Swarams in ‘Paluku Paluku’ was followed by the Thani by percussion aritstes, Sri. K.V.Gopalakrishnan and Adambakam Sri. Shankar. Next in line was the grand Ragam – Thanam - Pallavi in Ranjani. The words of the Pallavi were Hanumathe Bhagavathe Namsathe Sadha Manasa’ . The Trikalam was followed by Ragamalika swarams in Begada – Bowli – Hindolam – Suruti and the entire RTP was spellbinding.

The Thukkada section commenced with a soul stirring Viruttam on Karpagambikai (Kapaleeswarar temple), rendered in Saveri, Valaji and Behag, followed by the Papanasam Sivan composition – ‘Karpagambikai Nee Allavo’. The Raga outline of Mishra Pilu followed by the Tulsi das bhajan was enchanting. There was never a dull moment in this concert, with such a grand songlist, and excellent renditions.
