Sanjay Subramanyam - NGS - dec 27
Nagai R Shriram - Violin
V.Raja Rao - Mridhangam
S. Venkatramanan - Kanjira
Sabapathiku - Abogi
Nannukanna thalli - Kesari
Kande kande swamiya - ? (please help with Raaga identification)
Devi brova samaya - Chintamani
Missed portions of the main - not sure what song or raagam this was
RTP - not sure about the raagam - was it Shanmukhapriya? Pallavi was Kaa Maalmaruga Shanmugha guha muruga (a little kamboji, kaanada, and bageshri in the middle)
Ethanai sonnalum - Saveri
Yaarukku ithanai - Suratti
(the concert had already gone past 6:30 by then, and I had to leave - I do not know what other songs he sang before the mangalam)
Please let me apologize - The song list is woefully inadequate, totally reflects my lack of knowledge and a reminder to myself as to how much more I need to learn. It would be wonderful if all of you could help complete this list.
My review is not going to be very elaborate - i could choose to write a million adjectives praising Sanjay's performance, but I know I would be preaching to the choir then! This was my first live Sanjay concert in decades. I was absolutely flabbergasted by his mastery. I have never seen a performance like his. Every single line that he sang was embellished with the most free flowing gamakams. He had so much fun singing, delving into hindustani style passages, as well as some western style interpretations. The violinist was equally brilliant and shadowed every tiny note of Sanjay's perfectly. I can only say that the Sangitha Kalanidhi award was honored by Sanjay accepting it. If there are any titles greater than this, he deserves all that and even more. He has literally "karachu kudichu"fied the entire ocean of Carnatic music. I am so lucky I got to attend this concert!

When I searched online, some websites did mention Mukhari. However, the song that Sanjay sang was in a different raagam, the rasikas sitting next to me confirmed it was not Mukhari (they noticed my furious googling and asked!)

The Way With A Review...
Do review--you'll be in our hearts,
Gsastrigal said to Mami at heart--
Yes, let them touch our hearts, I add--
Cerebral deliberations educate us
To appreciate music even more--yet
To touch the heart is music's mission
Visionaries gifted us with their hearts
Reasoning is part of understanding it
But the heart has its reasons, for sure
........
Mami at heart,
If my memory serves me right Sanjay sang kanDe kanDe in kannaDa.
