That was a brilliant yet 'sampradayic' concert by the talented youngster, a worthy disciple of Chitravina Narasimhan and Ravikiran. The traditional Gottuvadyam) rechristened as Chitraveena by Ravikiran), is a wondertful instrument that can produce a virtual Naadaprapancha in the hands of an expert player.

The Sri raga Varnam and Jaya jaya in Naata set the right mood for a fine concert.

The outline of Vachaspati followed by the popular Paratpara with swaraprastaara at Ári ayanum kaanaa' was fine. When everyone expected yet another popular kriti for Khamas, Ganesh took up the not much heard santanagoplakrishnam with sprightly swaras @ Nartanamuralidharam wherein the notes literally danced at the fingertips of Ganesh. Kalagada offered stark contrast preceding the 'main' Saramati. Swaraprastara@ Pallavi was compact yet entertaining. Fidelity to sahityabhava was an outstanding aspect of the recital. M.R.Gopinath provided faithful accompaniment on the violin.

Tani by Saravanan and Murali had all the niceties for an eduppu at ''Arai edam'' for the main suite.

The highlight of the post tani segment was a kriti in vakulabharanam on Lord Varadaraja of Kancheepuram composed by Paripurnan (none else than Chitraveena Muralidharan -more popular with Chennai Fine Arts- who has composed songs on deities of all the 108 divyadesams).

The Tirupugazh in Suddhasaveri was bright and preceded the Mangalam.

An excellent concert.

Vakulabharanam is a haunting raga with limited krithi set , nice to hear a contemporary composer composing and more importantly artist taking it in concert platform. It is quite a task to compose on 108 divyadeshams ,kudos to vaggeyakkara P N Muralidharan.

Thanks for your review. Does PN MUralidharan use paripurnan as his mudra in each of the krithi or is that his pen name for vageyakkara.

rajeshnat,
paripurnan seems to be a pen name.

I understand that Paripurnan's lyrics are being tuned by P. Ganesh. 'Saranam Saranam' (Vakulabharanam) is one among it.
