BGS was like a train station. Unbelievable traffic with people walking in and out (I remember reading somewhere that its ok to walk out during Carnatic concerts!) Plus I had the joy of sitting in front of 2 mamis who were deeply engrossed in discussion of the comings and goings in their family. Sigh!!!

However, this did not stop the team from presenting some brilliant music with many rare songs. Rama announced that it was Sri Thyagaraja's 250th birth anniversary and dedicated her Season 2017 to the Saint. As is her wont, she did present a rare Thyagaraja kriti right at the start. The power of full understanding of the language plus her own musical finesse gives it instant appeal.

The Kalyani ragam with the rare MV kriti and beautiful niraval was impressive. Her alapana lingering on 'Ni' with S & P varjam for a good 5 minutes with the impending halt in thara Shadjam, was pure magic. She does not play safe and is prepared to try many prayogams which all makes it very interesting. The RTP with ragamalika swarams in Malayamarutham and Kunthalavarali had all the work in it. She did a kuraippu to the swaras of the RTP itself (gRs, nDp, gRs) A rare Javali and Thillana wrapped it all up nicely

Will miss her at Academy today-have to be elsewhere.

Malladi Duo sings this song in Vasantha. Surprising how Sain't kriti is sung in different raaga ?!
