I think you are referring to the same person I know. I remember his name as Ramesh. I was shocked to see him in this stage. In late 80s-90s he was a regular and enthusiastic music listener in all the concerts in Bangalore. Sitting in the front row putting talam loudly and exclaiming sabhash besh in a loud voice. Must has been a senior beaurocrat somewhere. I have not talked to him except some raga discussions. Now I saw the same person blind- in the Academy - coming with the help of an attendant. Much shocked. One day, in the midst of the concert he wanted to go to restroom. Started shouting from his seat. Then some good soul took him to the restroom.
Still I bow before his passion- to come to the concert even at this stage. I did not venture to go and talk to him now.

I have interacted a lot with this man between concerts during the season about ten years ago. Mostly in the canteens. If I remember right his name is "Mani". He is not just a informed rasika but is capable of reproducing the intricate renditions of great masters perfectly! I haven't run into him in many years now. But whenever I met - the meeting wouldn't complete without him singing the patented GNB phrases in Kalyani and Ramnad Krishnan phrases in Varali and Begada.

I remember after an OST concert at Seshadripuram (He used to live Bangalore arnd 2003/04) - he went backstage to demonstrate the various parts of OST's alapana that were drawn from different masters. My humble pranams to the great rasika. I do hope I could run into him again.

This person is of late also disturbs by giving lot of running commentary .He is escorted and at times few sabha secy have asked him to sit bit backward as he has the habit of giving live commentary. I guess rasikatvam is not in check with him .

Almost the entire series has been uploaded in YT and each one of them is superb. A true tribute to Ramnad Krishnan.

During this year's TVR academy concert, he was just in front of me (2nd row) and closely following the sangatis and exclaiming often that it was exactly as GNB would have done it. After the concert he would hum those same phrases effortlessly on the way out escorted. I think I heard him say that he was Semmangudi's student during a conversation with someone next to him. Maybe that'll identify him. Very knowledgeable and visibly moved by good music.

Rajesh - I'm sad hearing this. The ones who have met him when he was in his pink of health would empathize with him. To me he is one of the greatest rasikas I have ever met.
