I wrote a review for this 2 times but it seemed to vanish. Lets hope, third time lucky
The music just flowed from the first note of Shanmukhapriya. Before we knew it, the audience were on their feet for a standing ovation.
The trademark half avartana KS for Bahudari was only matched by the possessed Naada Loludai. For many years now, this Thyagarja is synonymous to the 1 hour LP by LGJ, but Krishnan managed to shine his own light on this melodic piece. He the essayed a very unique, yet captivating Thodi for the Lalgudi Pancharatnam, Gati Nee. Prior to that, LV captured many 'aha' moments with her Madhyamavati and the KS for 'PayO jAksha' which was an atheetha eduppu ( 1 before the thalam start of Khanda Chapu) That was electric.
LGJRK started a pristing Hamsanandi in the still of the night and in a quiet room where there was not a whisper. He displayed many Hindustani flavours of the raga and flat notes and LV matched it with a Carnatic hue. Together it wove an intricated web leading into the Pallavi and tailed off with a cascade of ragas. The duo were totally 'in sync'

Hmm not so prescient of me!! I saw an FB post by GJRK with those words! I sing the varnam and I realized that other than "Maram," I didn't understand much. So i thought you would be able to help, that part was certainly prescient !! Thank you!

That Shanmukhapriya varnam is a beautiful one-both lyrically and musically. I am told that it was requested by Chitra Vishwesaran for a dance recital and LGJ researched and composed it in 5 days. He visited a Srinivasa Kovil every morning (early) for those 5 days, and, it is truly an inspired composition.
