Watching too, in Mysore.. enjoying this concert.

What did you mean by this?

Neraval (madhyamavati) in progress, I’m not sure why the second line of Anupallavi should be left out of the neraval. Leaving out Bharata and others does not seem justified.. just listing Sita and Lakshmana seems to neglect meaning.

Dr. S Sowmya is her Guru - she has been learning from her childhood - at least 15 years
Many of S Sowmya's concerts we can spot her on the tambura

1, The first googly was the 8+ minute varnam with a slew of crisscrossing speed variations

2. The second googly was the mid verse swara prasthara at Palinchu Kamakshi in Sankari Neeve, even before the much anticipated chitta swara/sahitya passages.

3. The third googly was "Vande Sada Padmanabham" - in its sombre variety.

Now, whiplash comes easy to me. YMMV!

She is the female version of Vid. Ramakrishna Murthy. ghana khaccidam. Very difficult to get the intonation and expression in this measured way. idukku peyar tAN kARvaiyil laya Suddham enbatu ( This is what is meant by a laya exquisiteness in kArvais).

Dr S. Ramanathan's flatness is weebit enhanced with grace! Once a rasika @ Dayton temple shared this : nArayaNa gauLa's relative flatness and measured gamakas characterize DR SR style.

Without any abilities to know what are the authentic pATantarams myself, she will be a singer with appeal that would likely ( my conjecture) preserve pATAntarams. I get that feeling listening to her manasu nilpa, how sangatis develop.

There's a meme doing the rounds on social media about Artificial Intelligence & Natural Stupidity. This reflects both...

That is convenient. Now I don't have to respond, as I am naturally disqualified.

Intelligent use of the svara ending pari-pAlincu kAmAkshi! With pa-ri hitting the higher ri as happens in bEgaDA.

Yes!! One can hear the swaras as it were. Her voice and style seem to bring them out to the fore. Years ago I remember being bowled over by "Maathanga Mukha" in a similar fashion (different artiste).

I had posted a concert of hers earlier : viewtopic.php?f=13&t=30962&p=333878&hil ... ri#p332324 in which Sachi noted he had done one earlier.

A rasikas search yielded some old references: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=15570&p=189511

Seems people have noted her potential far back.

What impresses me is the young lady's measured poise as she goes about delivering her beautiful fare.

I do have a peeve.
Like any dyspeptic old man.

I wish the talented young violinist kept bowing to the limpid flow of her strong yet soft voice by sticking to the lower octave. I have noticed in the MSG bani this self-love of fiddling in the upper registers. This wins in the letter of the accompaniment method but not in the spirit. After all a high pitched violin's following sounds like a caricature of the vocal passages.

A peeve, but what a concert. Rendered well without fuss, holding the attention of true music lovers. The mridangam and the enthusiastic ghatam were true assets.

Sorry, one correction.
I do not know if Sayee Rakshith hails from the MSG school.

Sorry again

Saw her at kalavnta in bangalore - Mightily liked it. In fact, it was my best of those that I attended.

Here's my prediction for Chennai rasikas:
You will have at least 12 concerts by Subashri in the next 12 months 🙂

A feather to guru Sowmya's cap.
V.Subashri has confidence but she doesn't flaunt it. She delves into depths and yet maintains liveliness in her singing. A serious student it seems, and yet breezy in her expression. Above all, she is a natural. The best to her as she grows into a distinguished vidushi to make her guru, family and rasikAs proud...
