Inaugural concert for DKJ Foundation

with MAK, Poongulam Subramanian & ASKrishnan

Nithyasri, MAK, Poongulam, ASKrishnan

hamsadhwani sketch gam gaNapatE s@pallavi
vinathA sutha vAhana
kAsirAmakriyA visAlAkshIm visvEshim ns@kAsirAgnIm kapAlinIm
mAlOn maruganai in bilahari followed by, what else but DKJs signature mAmayUramIdhlERi
sObillu saptaswara two songs consecutively with sparkling chittaiswarams.
karaharapriyA to be followed by nadaci nadaci perhaps?

Marvelous so far. At times though her voice just shoots up reflexively into a little pain territory.

She pulled a surprise with jAnakipathE (sarvagnA google says this is a DKJ specialty though). s@guha jatAyu shabari and tani

nambikkettavar evarayyA
theerAdha viLayAttuppiLLai
mahAdEva sivasambhO
chelinEnEtlutakintunE
mangaLam

About 20-25 mins at the start of the program was appa/aththai/patti reminiscing by DKJs elder son & Nithyashri

DKP seems to have had a repertoire of 200+ Dikshitar kritis*
PMI was instrumental in DKJ relocating to Chennai from Kanchipuram. PMI was bowled over by young DKJs music in mid1960s and could not sleep for well over a week after listening to DKJ first time - the music was so haunting

*How many came to the concert circuit? Does the sishya kulam preserve and propagate that? dharmasamvardhani, gangE mAmpAhi, mahAlakshmi karuNarasa, srI subrahmanyO, soundararAjam, etc. seem gone out vogue

Could be. Didn't catch a name. I would be surprised though as Srivatsan isn't that common a name amongst smArthAs.
