Malavika Sundar’s concert for Nadanirajanam

Post by kvchellappa »

Heard Malavika Sundar’s concert.
I was wondering why some artists, more so ladies, close their eyes while singing. Long back, reviewing Nithyasree’s concert, the reviewer remarked, “She is keeping her eyes closed while singing. She must be on guard as she is wearing costly jewels.”
When Malavika sang Subramanyena rakshitoham, I remembered Sanjay narrating how someone asked him to sing Subramanyaya Namaste, and he sang after some hesitation. It was a refreshing change from the usual Rangapuravihara and Srivenkatagirisam (which Malavika sang for good order), Seshachalanayakam, etc.
Sri Neyveli Santhanagopalan explained Tirumalarahasyam: originally there was a Subramanian idol, but it was adopted as Venkatachalapathi. Singing on Subramanian is doubly apt from this context, and Siva-Vishnu abheda, a theme Smt. Visakha Hari highlighted in her discourse titled Namassivaya.
Venkataramana in Latangi was the main. Sagarasayana in Bhagesri followed.
Apoorva Krishna on the violin, Smesh Narayanan on mrdangam, and Krishna on ghatam were the accompanists.
A standard fare.

It is a much believed myth that Subrahmanyar idol was replaced. A weelll done research by Sri TKT Raghavacharya clearly proves he is a Murthy beyond description though he has the marks of both Shiva and Vishnu murtham.
